Come on. I know the vast majority of people here have read this book. I forgot who wrote it, but I've read it like five times since the third grade.
I think it's awesome. So sad, but sweet. What did you think?
I hope I spelled the title right....

Oh, that was such a sad book! And the little boy threw the paints she gave him in the creek/river/whatever. I read it in 6th grade so very sad.

Yeah, I've read it! It's so sad at the end though -- I cried! I never cry in books.

I read it too, I think I would have liked it better if I hadn't flipped through the pages and looked at all of the pics before finishing the book

I read it way back in 6th grade....something about a gold room, the boy is very poor, the one girl gets bobby socks for Christmas, a puppy named Prince Somethingorother. I remember the end and the girl beating all the boys in the races. Other than that I don't know any specifics.

I just recently finished reading it, again. I read it first in fourth grade, i believe. But then I loved it so much, i had to read it again. So...I'm a freshman in college. It's been a while, but the book made that much of an impact on me! I can't believe it even now, but all the books that have ever made a lasting impression on me I have read over and over and over again through out the years, and gotten my little sister to read them as well...she equally liked them.
I loved the book. It was excellent, and now I can't even remember some of the things, considering i just read it a while ago, is sad. The book itself is a wonderful story of maturation, and friendship, and i think, love, and even growing up in the societal values, peer pressure. But you all don't want to hear me blab on and on, most likely. i'm no english major analysit either.
And the Gold room? that was when the girl's father, the boy, and her helped to paint the walls of like, the living room or some other in her house. the painted it a beautiful color of gold, and so when the sun shone in, it made the room shine like gold! Leslie..that was her name! Leslie....and the dog was named Prince Terrain (sp) something like that...lol...and yes, Leslie beat all of the boys in the races.
lol...hoped i could help. lots of love always, jessica

I remember reading this story. It was very sad. I loved it. How ironic is it that pretty much everyone here who has read it, read it back in like the thired to sixth grade? Or maybe it's not so much ironic as it is just funny?

I don't remember much about it either, it was our novel for 4th grade. It was sad... I remember always looking forward to having it read to us. Though I can't remember why we were still being read to in 4th grade, is that normal?
