I like non-fiction sometimes (I used to hate it), but I prefer fiction. It's hard enough to deal with my own life, I don't want to read about other people's problems too! Not always anyway - I have to be really interested in the subject matter.
There are nonfictional (or sometimes fictional based books on events that really occurred) stories that I reccomend:
Memoirs of Geisha (I forget the author, but I think it's based on a true story)
Don't Stand Too Close To A Naked Man, Tim Allen
Paper Bullets, Kip Fullbeck
Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt
