I have noticed that about her writing...she really goes off on tangents. A really good book by her is 'Paradise'. Its about a sort of "homeless girls shelter", that the locals are afraid of because its all women and thye think they are running a wh*re house ( or something similar to that, its been a while since I read it ) and the first page it says "they kill the white girl first". But she never says who the white girl is throughout the whole book. There are all these girls that you learn about, and I guess she is trying to convey that their lives were all the same, and their troubles were the same, no matter what color they were. It was really interesting.

What had more impact on me was Sethe's decision in Beloved..she killed her daughter in order to "save "her actually..wow you need some courage and you need to believe in what you did...tho Sethe feels guilty anyway.

I remember seeing the movie with my English class when it came out. It was badly made. People in the theater were laughing when Sethe (Oprah) went outside and urinated, which was supposed to symbolize her water breaking. Ugh, it was awful.
I've only read Beloved and The Bluest Eye and she is a powerful writer, but heavily depressing, so I'm not reading anymore of her books for now.
