Anyone else read her? I think she is brilliant, I love her work. My fave book by her is 'Song of Solomon'. I am getting ready to read 'Jazz'. Any thoughts?

YAY I am so glad you replied to this!
Song of Solomon is about this man, I forget his name right now, and he is learning about the history of his family. The basis of it is a lot of African american folklore, and the rumour in his fam that someone has buried a fortune in the mountains where his mom was freed from slavery. Its his journey through life. Its kind of hard to explain. But I highly recommend it!!

I have read Beloved. I thought it was amazing. I didnt watch the movie however...I was very disapointed that they even attempted to make it. there is just too much that cannot be captured in film.

I didn't really like Song of Solomon, probably mostly because I was forced to read it for school. She came and spoke at our school once though -- she's extremely cool.

OMG I am sooo jealous! Are you on the East Coast? I would LOVE to meet her. I have seen panel discussions with her on Book CSpan and stuff, and i have read interviews, she seems so nice. I think she is such a brilliant writer. She is a teacher at Yale or Princeton or something,a dn I would love to study under her.

God! you're so lucky! meeting Toni Morrison!
nfg: sorry, I didn't know you've read Beloved! I didn't see the movie but I've heard it was quite hard..I mean, harsh scenes..
What do you think of Beloved, I mean, the character?

Oh, uh, I didn't actually *meet* her, I just sat in a huge assembly and listened to her talk for a while. But it was still very cool!

Elwoth, no worries! I think that the character is exactly what a spirit of a murdered child would be like...I thought it was such an amazing story. Very creepy but kind of spiritual at the same time. you?

PHF1138: sorry again...I read too fast sometimes But you're still lucky!
nfg: I agree with you! My fav part is the chapter where there's no punctuation at all, only words, as if the baby ghost really was thinking..I think this particular part is difficult to understand..Toni Morrison must have used lots of symbols I don't understand, lol.
