I do not collect books but I will buy the occasional book if I take in an interest ie 'the lovely bones' which I recently purchased. I collect films on the other hand..but I guess a lot of people do don't they

i buy every book i ever plan on reading. i just like the way a big library looks. if i don't like the book, i just sell it to Half Price Books. you might say it's a waste of money, but i dont think so. you never know when i might need one of those books again one day...or maybe i just want to reread it. 
like Carina, i wouldn't call myself a collector, i just like having a lot of variety.

I started off collecting books as a child and pretty much still have all the books I've ever owned,except for the ones my ever-loving mother gave to my primary school because she thought I was too *old* for them! 
I have a large collection of fairytale anthologies and illustrated children's books ( not for my kids, but because I just love kids books and beautiful Illustrations).
Also, I have the complete LOTR, Harry Potter, Trixie Belden and Sweet Valley High series (among others).... numerous 'young adult' novels....classics such as Nineteen Eighty-Four,Macbeth, To Kill a Mockinbird, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Jane Eyre, The Great Gatsby etc....LOTS of old books simply because I like the look of them.
I've also got a bit of a collection of art and art history books, and books on my favourite bands, a few biographies ( especially on Marilyn Monroe).
Basically, You could say I've got a few books!!!he he!
