Daphne was born in 1907, grand-daughter of the brilliant artist and writer George du Maurier, daughter of Gerald, the most famous Actor Manager of his day, she came from a creative and successful family.
She began writing short stories in 1928, and in 1931 her first novel, 'The Loving Spirit' was published. It received rave reviews and further books followed. Then came her most famous three novels, 'Jamaica Inn', 'Frenchman's Creek' and Rebecca'. Each novel being inspired by her love of Cornwall, where she lived and wrote.

You are so right Miss Sixty. Book wise the Hobbit was so much easier to read than LOTR.
Other favorite book. Still life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins or also by him Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates.
Tom Robbins rocks

Well, technically LOTR, but since almost everyone will include this, I'll say "A Prayer For Owen Meany" by John Irving...
It features one of the most eccentric characters in all literature, the titular Owen - an extremely small-statured child, with pale otherworldly looks, an indescribable voice that is represented by using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS for his dialogue, and who thinks he is an agent of God!
Other faves are "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

I'm reading a book of his short stories at the moment, 'Cathedral'. Also read a good set called 'naked' by David Sedaris recently. But the best short story collection I ever read was 'Skin' by Roald Dahl. Great stuff.

someone here mentioned Dickens, I second that.
As for other favourite, I have to mention Harry Potter and LOTR. Although the some books that had the most impact on me, that completely fascinate me are the following:
The Sound and the Fury, W. Faulkner Crime and Punishment, Dostoievsky If a traveler in a witer night..., Italo Calvino Invisible cities, Italo Calvino Fictions, Jorge Luís Borges (collection of tales) The Trilogy of the city of k, Agota Kristof The Waves, Virginia Woolf The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde Aparição, Vergílio Ferreira The Process, Kafka The Man Without Qualities, Robert Musil The Origin of Tragedy, Nietzsche

My favorite books I read so far are:
Twilight saga Geek High & Geek Abroad
My favorite book(s) out of the Twilight saga was the first one and the last one. I really did not like second one much, because there was more descritions than the actual talking of characters, if you know what I mean. The third one was nice.
Now just have to read Harry Potter.... I was to young to read the first one. lol.
