I just picked up a copy of The Green Mile for £2.80 (I love that 2nd hand bookshop, I really really do) Started reading it until I realised I was in the middle of a Pratchett novel. From what I read it was good, and I will definately be coming back to it.

The Green Mile is really great!
Have anyone read Gerald's Game or something? It's really scary!
I just bought From A Buick 8, it's really mysterious...

It is brilliantly written! I don't know if you've seen the movie, but I would say that you don't need to see it after reading the book. Stephen King describes it all so well that you can see it all very clear inside your head!

What? Stephen King doesn't write thick books? Yes, Lisey's Story is thick, but that's the only one. All the others got normal sizes
Have any of you read or seen 1408 yet?

This is the one where John Cusack's character is in the hotel room, right?
No, I haven't read OR seen it, tho I meant to go see it in the cinema when it was out. Guess I'll just have to wait for the DVD. I love both Stephen King AND Cusack!
Can't remember all the SK books I've read over the years, but I know I've read "Carrie", "Pet Cemetary", "Thinner" and a few others...

Like Tolkien, Stephen King often gets slammed by literary snobs, probably cos he appeals to the masses and has sold TRUCK LOADS over the years!
It's true that just because something's popular, it doesn't make it good - but conversely, just because something is popular, doesn't mean it has no worth either.
King is a good writer, whose style flows easily and he generally manages to keep the suspense going till the end (sometimes TOO well, if scary stories aren't your thing!)
PS: Forgot to mention in my last post, have also read The Shining and Children of the Corn, Cujo.

i love and have ready nearly all of his books over the years and would love to own them all for future reading.... however. something only recently came to my attention when i heard of the new film adaptation of one of 'his' books 'the mist'. Now i hadnt read this one of his so when i saw the trailer for this film i noticed straight away its a copy of James Herbert's book 'The Fog'. to further clarify this could have been copied or manipulated i went in search of when each book was published... 'The Mist' - Stephen King came out 1980 'The Fog' - James Herbert came out 1975 So i now dont know what to think about this... James Herbert's 'The Fog' was a brilliantly scary book and i wouldnt want to think SK would take that away from him with his version...

I have seen more of his films then read his books.
I did not know that he had written a book like 'the fog' dan, judging by the years it looks like SK was taking JH idea, but without reading either of them I can't be certain.
Dan, you should read the short story 'the body' is what the film 'stand by me' was based on

I love Stephen King! His books are always better than his movies tho IMHO.
I just saw 1408 the movie it was good, but the short storie was phenominal.
Dream catchers the book also is an increadible read, the movie doesn't do it justice.
I love the way he writes, he's just bold and he doesn't hold back.
