What's the last book you read?

The last book I read, not school related or required, was Disco Bloodbath / Party Monster.  Whenever you're reading it, you forget that it's all true.  It's hauntingly brilliant.

From B&N:
When Disco Bloodbath was first published, it created a storm of controversy for its startlingly vivid, strikingly fresh, and outrageously funny depiction of the hedonistic world of the New York City club kids, for whom nothing was too outré -- including murder. Nominated for the Edgar Award for best true-crime book of the year, it also marked the debut of an audaciously talented writer, James St. James, who himself had been a club kid and close friend and confidant of Michael Alig, the young man convicted of killing the drug dealer known as Angel.

Now the book has been brought to the screen as Party Monster, with Macaulay Culkin playing killer Michael Alig and Seth Green as author/celebutante James St. James.

What's the last book you read?
Did you enjoy it?
Would you recommend it to others?

This is an entirely genre from your's, but just minutes ago I finished reading "The Neverending Story." Love it, love it, love it!! If you've seen the movie (and I'm talking about the first one, with Noah Hathaway and Barret Oliver), it only covers the first half of the book, and quite sparsely. The rest of the story is so much more involved and engaging -- it's just about impossible to put the thing down. It's pretty allegorical I guess, but it's not too bad -- not nearly as preachy as it could be. I still love the movie, mind you -- it never gets old, no matter how many times I watch it (although some of those blue screen shots are a little embarrassing) -- but the book is better. Oh, it's so much better -- everything you love about the movie will be even more amazing when you read about it in full.
So yeah, that was basically just a huge blurb of propaganda, but I can't stress it enough -- it's wonderful.

The Da Vinci Code.

It's was great and I have been suggesting it to others.

Last night I rwad bits of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul II (it's been on my shelf since I was twelve) for essay preparation. I'm taking the Texas state-wide test over writing and they always give cheesy prompts..so hopefully reading cheesy stories will help.

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause. It was pretty cool. Kind of bizarre but still cool.

the lioness by nancy varian berberick.

it was okay, but she writes like a beginnbing writer, and the books cover is a total cliché.

Besides LOTR, it was The Da Vinci Code and I loved it.  I think everyone should read it.  Very captivating plot and a quick read.  Interesting theories.  All around A+.

the last book i read was "Rotten"- the autobiography of Johnny Rotten, lead singer of the Sex Pistols in the 70's and Public Image Limited in the 80's, now known as John Lydon. it's really impressive. John talks a lot about his family (he was very close with his mom, who died fairly young in 1979, shortly after the Sex Pistols broke up. his father passed away a few years ago. but he keeps up regular contact with his younger brothers Jimmy and Martin, who still live in London, while John lives in L.A.), and about some of his more personal confessions. for example, he was very religious as a kid. he went to church pretty much every single week until he was 18. even when he was all decked out in his punk clothes, he would attend church because his parents had such a strong relationship with God. he also contracted meningitis when he was 8 years old, and was hospitalized for an entire year (this was the early 1960's, so medicine wasn't as advanced as it is today). of course, he mentioned his tumultuous years w/ the Sex Pistols and how drugs and constant bickering destroyed the band (Lydon has been drug free since the breakup). he discusses PIL and how their large scale success made him both happy and miserable. and he brings up his wife, Nora, whom he's been married to since 1984. she's the complete opposite of him (in appearance and personality) but he loves her more than anything. it really gave me a whole new insight into his life. he's now more than just a musician to me. he's a human being who's lead a truly unique life, both onstage and off.
