Vegan/ Vegetarian?!
« on: June 04, 2003, 01:07:19 pm »

If you are, could you list your reasons as well? I know mine, so i'm curious on what other reasons there are, for hard-to-convince-people. I bet you've encounterd them; "Oh, how can you live like that, you can't possibly get enough proteins!"  We all know that just not right...
I'm a vegetarian, on my way to vegan. My reasons;
It's healthier
It's better for the environment
It's ethically right for many reasons,  on a land enough to feed one meat-eater, you can feed 12 vegans. The food is divided between countrys in a more loyal way, etc.

Yes. No vegans or vegetarians eat only one type of food. Most actually eat alot better and more variated than meat eaters. Plus, meat is not a food that is good for our specie, homo sapiens, no matter all the commercials.

i was a vegetarian for lent. I hated it. There were sometimes when I felt all " well at least I'm not killing animals" but I couldn't stand not having meat. The way I see it is that our ancestors eat meat and God intended us to have a food chain just cuz that's the way ilt works.

No. Our metabolism hasn't changed in a very, very long time. In our history of eating, we didn't start eating meat untill yesterday. Get me? We are not made for meat in the amounts we eat it now. Meat is not a food for our specie. Fish is, it has less of the protein concentration, but meat from land-living animals is not.
So no, Malli, it is not the way it always has been.

i do it because i dont like to eat animals mostly, i dont like to contrubute to the killing of animals
but i have nothing against people who eat meat, im not the kind of person who tries to persuade people to turn vegetarian or anything

No, neither am I, but I tell them when they have misconseptions or predjuces. It gets annoying at times, when they ask stuff like "Well, how do you survive on potatoes and sallat?"    I think most veggies have encounterd those..!

I eat normal, except for the diet I'm doing, no eggs, no milk, no chees, no raw vegetables, no sugar

But eating normal is just the best thing you could do ^_^ Except for the junk food, It's tasty, but not good. But humans need meat, they always have eaten meat, 1000000000 years ago also...

I eat 'normal' except I try to cut on pork for so reason. I have a vegan friend...the cookies she made one time were the BEST!! ^o^!
And like someone else said...I went meatless for lent one time...I had hell and my friend would always put meat infront of my face and pull it back and say "oh wait...that's right you can't eat meat for another (x) days!!" >.0!! I hated them for that!!

No, no Mieke. *shaking head*  We ate a rat maybe once a month, but defenatly not the quantetys we eat now. Our metabolism is made for a lot of raw veggies, nuts, fruit, beans etc, but not the high protein meat has. We are simply not made to eat this much meat, and not to mention our moral...It is a very common misconseption that we need meat to survive, that it's a major part of our carnal diet. You can belive the meat-companies commercials if you want to, but speak to a well-educated dietist, who has studied nutritional history you'll find a whole diffrent view.

That last post I made sounded a little prejudiced. Sorry Anyways, I have nothing against vegetarians/veagans. I have a couple of friends who are vegetarians. I jsut don't want to stop eating meat. I mean I've been eatign meat since I ate solid food. I'm pretty sure I would not feel right if I just completely quit eating meat. Well that's my two cents.........
