The inspirational part tho is how much everybody pitched in to help.
At work we did a bake sale and also took calls for the Red Cross.
It's a good chance to get creative on fund raising. And ultimately those that help will restore one's faith in humanity (As opposed to the disapointment
you must feel over the arsonists.)
Keep us posted. And I'm happy to hear the prayers have been answered as far as the fires getting under control.

^^^ Yes Emily, most of the fires are under control now, but there are still blazes burning in some areas.
Also, there are thousands of homeless people and injured animals to care for, and thankfully the Salvation Army, Red Cross and other selfless volunteers are doing a brilliant job of keeping everyone fed and clothed in makeshift "tent cities".
Like with Hurricane Katrina and other disasters, the Red Cross has just done an outstanding job! So far their fundraising appeal has raised over $63 MILLION in less than a week, which is FANTASTIC for a little country of only 22 million people, and this isn't counting money still being raised by schools and businesses. Gives me faith in humanity.

Oh that beautiful Koala bear just kills me! The poor sweetie 
He can come live here with me if he wants  
What a nice animal...and so approachable too for a wild critter.
I can't believe he's holding hands...er paws..and drinking
out of that water. He must be so out of sorts! Are they always
that comfortable around humans?

I was just thinking the koala is so cute too. Yeah are they usually that friendly round people or is it just scared

I saw that Koala on the news yesterday - didn't the firemen save him from the blaze? It's amazing the amount of money that's been raised - it does restore your faith a little bit, doesn't it? The first photo there, Gem, shows how huge the blazes were - I had no idea they were that massive! Best wishes for Australia.

very sad thing...
i'm glad that most fired places are under controlled now..hope all those homeless people and poor animals be save and find a safe place..
i'm also glad that there are a lot of people who help and collaborate in this hard time...
my pray to those people  ... And god give Australia the peace and prosperity

No, Koalas are usually nocturnal animals, so to see a wild one out in daylight and so approachable means that the poor thing was feeling really really bad at the time...
"Sam" the female Koala pictured above was tired, thirsty and suffering burns to her paws which have since been treated.

Wow that just breaks my heart about that poor little Koala bear. She's so beautiful..and so sad Glad she's doing better now though. I know it's devastating for all the people involved too but the Koala piccie is just one of those things that "hits home".

I knew I loved Orlando Bloom for a reason (okay, many reasons, hehe  ) ...
According to TORn, Orli helped man the phones during a bushfire relief Telethon on Oz TV last week. What a guy!

Thanks for the link Gem - I read that somewhere last Saturday and thought it was lovely of him. I heard he went out there to visit his girlfriend for Valentine's Day and he got involved when he heard of the extent of the damage.

That's right Jen, it's like Mary says... Orlando's girlfriend Miranda is from here, so while he was visiting they decided to lend a helping hand.
Other celebs who gave their time included Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Mel Gibson and Russell Crowe... along with countless everyday folks of course. We applaud them all!
