Gas prices are insane out here.

Alicia, I was in Berkeley tonight!  In traffic, but still. I am going to be there on Saturday too.  One of my best friends just graduated from Cal, and she works there.  Its okay...not into the whole dirty hippy I am going to protest everything scene, but its a cool town.  I like the small cafes, and they have a couple of great breweries there.  mmmm beer.

It's neat and kinda weird to think that right now, a lot of us are pretty close in proximity.  Isn't it?  Mayhaps it's just me.

It's uber neat especially cause I can mention things and have people know what I mean!  Like the fact that the sky in LA is grey at night instead of black, or the horrible traffic in most of California, etc.  I want to go to Yosemite sometime soon cause I hear it's beautiful.  I've been up near Big Bear and that's AWESOME.  Except I hate skiing cause whichever skiis I wear seem to have a fondness for trees...if you catch my drift.

What is PB again?  Pacific Beach, right?  That place was really neat.  I like the bus system in SD a lot.  It's okay in LA too - the Big Blue Bus is my friend - but, eh, people were friendlier in SD.  I remember the last time I was there, I went to a drum circle.

Speaking of which:  Anyone go to Venice Beach?  What do you think of it?

I'm in good ol' California. Right in the heart of East LA, so those pops that we hear at night, yeah those are gunshots. And the LAPD are literally staked outside on an hourly basis. Sad but oh so exciting. Especially when they have the helicopters out with their search lights.
I'm originally from Northern California (bout an hour outside of San Francisco/Oakland area) so I've been a cali girl all my life and this summer I'm surfing. (time to get those sterotypes going)

Absolutly agree on the mentioning things and people understanding. I call home and they have no clue what I mean when I say I'm paying nearly 2.30 for some damn gas (it's 1.99 up there).

But Yosemite, oh thats my heaven if there were to be such a place. Its just pure unbrideled freedom and there's this indescribable quality to it that making it as beautiful as it is amazing. (if you can't tell I love it) But I'm going back there over the summer, I need to. Plus I really want to hike Half Dome. Last time we were there, we hiked all 4 of the water falls but didn't make it to Half Dome..getting to the top is one of my goals in life.

What's Half Dome?  I haven't heard of that before.

I want to get in better shape...er...well, that's kind of a stupid statement:  I want to get in shape for hiking so that I can go there sometimes and walk all around the huge waterfalls.

East LA, eh?  Wow...I couldn't imagine living there.  My friend used to live there (maybe she still does) and I remember there was a knifing on the corner store there and we couldn't go in because the police were there or something.  My memory's a bit hazy.  I do remember that there were a lot of thuggish-looking people walking around outside.

I hear sirens and helicopters a lot.  Actually, a few months ago there was a car chase that ended three blocks away from my house.  I think it was the one where he ended up shooting himself.  It was weird.  I saw the car and everything:  I knew he was dead, but it was so surreal.  He was driving a Volkswagen Bug.  I doubt anyone remembers this but it was just so strange.

There are actually some nice places to eat in east LA.  Er...I think it constitutes east LA.  On Normandie there's a nice falafel-type place...is that east LA?  Well, I like going there.

I'm so excited for the sun.  Yay for tanning!

Edited to add:
Pertaining to the car chase, it was hilarious because I was watching it on TV.  I saw the car go, and then it turned here and there, and I started thinkin' "wow, that looks familiar" and I then I realized the helicopters weren't going away and I went outisde and there everyone was.  Cause there was a crowd.

I believe that's a common misconception, that all Californians meet celebrities.  IT'S NOT TRUE.  We don't always see them in the street.  Maybe everyone else does but me

Hahaha, that would suck so much.

I don't live in California but the thread title just called out to me. I've been to San Diego and San Francisco and I wouldn't mind living there at all. The Bay Area's expensive to live in, though, I've heard. I went to SD a few years ago so my memory's fuzzy but I just remember it being gorgeous! The water was so cold though.

And dude, 59 degrees is warm to you? It's over 80 degrees in Houston right now - that's warm.

The more the merrier, Mer.

Is SF expensive?  I know that there's an area called Novato near there that is UBER expensive.  I know because I was looking into working in that area but the prices of the places scared me.  And I thought SF was a bit crowded - is it?  It might've just felt that way to me when I was there.  I remember I used to want to go to Berkeley.  Man did that change once I went to visit.  It's very artsy and political and I'm neither of those things.

The water is pretty cold, I agree, Mer.  I don't really go swimming in the ocean though because down near LA the ocean is too polluted some days.  It sucks.  So I just go for the view.  I don't know what it is, but I feel as if I need to be near the ocean.  The air is so much clearer that way.

Is San Diego really that much hotter?  I had no idea.  I know that it's usually pretty cool where I am, and a bit warmer in LA.

Okay, perhaps 59 degrees isn't warm but it's a nice temperature.  I fall asleep if it's over 70 degrees.  My dad says it's because of our low blood pressure but I don't understand that connection.

Hey, is it true that you're not allowed to pick California poppies?  Cause my dad did.

Well, you aren't supposed to pick them, cuz its the state flower.  That always fascinated me as a kid.  How it could be "illegal" to pick a damn flower.

Novato is 5 minutes north of where I work right now, in Marin County.  And yes, its expensive and pretentious, I hate most of our clientele.  SF is very expensive.  You can barely rent a closet for under $1500 a month, its ridiculous.

San Diego is much warmer, its so close to Mexico, and a lot of the outlying areas are desert, at least that I have seen.

Are you driving down there?  I will be drivnig, probably leaving around 3 or 4. That would be so weird to look over on I5 and see you (since I have seen what you look like, via siggy pics).  I would be waving and you would think I was some crazy insane person!!  LOL

But what if she thinks you're some crazy insane person already?

That's so cool that you guys are goin' at the same time and all that.  Weird, huh?  It's nice to know we're all in the same time zone.  So many people on here are from Europe and all that.

Haha, my dad committed crimes.  A few times.  Oops.  He was just trying to be nice though, and pick me some flowers.  Oh well.

I've never been to Mexico.  I didn't know San Diego was so influenced by being south.  I mean, there are other places south of LA to which I've been that haven't been that much warmer.

So what are you guys gonna do in SD?  Oh wow, you guys will be driving by me.  Be sure to wave!
