It depends on the day, my mood, and many other factors when it comes to this question. So I'll have to say that 'it depends on the situation'.
Some things in life happen that are so blatantly 'meant to be', and not 'just coincidence' that I am forced to, on these occasions, believe in fate and destiny and the like.
But there are other times (and more pessimistic days) where I can find reason for seemingly 'miraculous' happenings to just be due to coincidence.
Maybe I'm wishy-washy; perhaps I'm just too sarcastic for my own good. But I don't truly believe in fate. How can I? I've never had proof of it (not solid life-changing proof, at least). I'd like to, but I just don't think I do. Meh.
Sorry about your mom's friend, though. That's really tough, whether coincidence or fate, or whatever it was.
