I'd be interested to find out if he was in to electro at all, and if he was then I'd recommend a few CSS track to him. Provided he hadn't heard them already of course.
And I'd possibly recommend The Radio Dept. to him too.

Hmm I'd suggest Aussie band the Butterfly Effect, their song Gone if I had to choose one and hm... Hawk Nelson, any of theirs, many of theirs

I'd recommend for him to listen to the Goo Goo Dolls...if he hasn't already since they started in New York, I'm sure he has maybe already heard of them, but I bet he'd like their songs "Iris", "Here Is Gone", and "Slide" if he hasn't.
BTW I heard about that Shayda, that's really cool! Do you remember what songs were on the CD?

I would recommend the Evanescence albums, especially the first one oh and monster album by REM, a classic.

Or 'Costello Music' by the Fratellis - do you think they;'re not obscure enough for him, though!? In every interview where he talks about music, there's always someone mentioned who I've never heard of...

Wow, my musical taste is pretty different from 'Lij's.
Maybe he'd like the 21-20s' "Shoot Your Gun." Or maybe the theme from "Charmed" -- I think it's called "How Soon Is Now." Originally done by the Smiths, but the version used on the show was done by a group called Love Spit Love.
