I have two of their albums on my "to get" list.

Pixies - Surfer Rosa
and
Pixies - Doolittle

I have had a few of their song downloaded for a while now, and I seam to listen to them a lot, so I am hopping to pick up those CD's some time soon.  "Where Is My Mind?" is a great song, love it.

As for being a big fan?? Can't tell yet. If the rest of the CD's are as good as the songs I have downloaded then I am sure to become a fan.

I LOVE the Pixies.  Surfer Rosa is a classic.

For some strange reason though, I have a fascination with the song Silver.  I think it's the creative guitar stuff going on in the background.

I am a massive Pixies fan, and by extension a big Breeders fan as well. I saw the Pixies play twice in the early 90s. I'm not as big a fan of the Catholics, the band fronted by Black Francis, the Pixies former lead singer.

Try the CD Doolittle --well try both Surfer Rosa and Doolittle, as previously mentioned. It has the excellent song Wave of Mutilation (also featured on the Pump up the Volume soundtrack in a slower version), I Bleed, and Debaser, one of my favorite songs of all time.

I have moved forward in my music tastes and continue to incorporate new genres, but I always return to the Pixies because they are timeless.

Hello, Ms. moomoo.  Those Pixies shows were so fun. I was near the stage for one and there was a mosh pit with people bouncing around over the crowd. Crazy days!

The Pixies last CD was Trompe L'Monde (Fool the World in French). I think they were on the creative wane with that CD, so I don't really recommend it. Save your money or listen to it on amazon.com to see if you like it.

I would, however, recommend Pod from the Breeders, and Last Splash. The first is very sparse and moody, minamalist but brilliant. Kim Deal plays on that with her twin sister and a woman from the Throwing Muses, another popular girl band from the era. Pod proved to me beyond a doubt that Kim Deal was the true creative force behind the Pixies, more so than Black Francis. Last Splash had more commercial success, and has a sort of "surf guitar" sound, but it is also excellent.

Hope that helps! Maybe we can do a "band swap" and you can tell me what other music you like that I should listen to. If you are a Pixies fan, you have great taste!

Aw, you're so sweet. Thanks for the help!

That sounds like such fun. And being so close to the stage is even better! I saw a 1988 Pixies concert (I think it was in England) on Trio it was really cool and it had musicians like Bono and David Bowie commenting on it! They talked about all their cds as well.

Yeah, thats what i heard, that Surfer Rosa and Doolittle were their best, creative CDs. Thanks for the tip, I'll do that!

Oh yeah, i have Pod! Its so pretty. Kim's voice is nice and soothing. (I like her vocals on Glorious the most.)
And I completely agree that she was the creative force behind the Pixies. Shes amazing.
I was going to get Last Splash but instead I got Title Tk. I was a little disappointed with it. It's ok, but not as good as Pod. (The She is my favorite on that one.) But I definitely think I'll get Last Splash.

Ok, cool, alright!  I'm not sure what bands you have heard of or like but I'll recommend some I like:
Sonic Youth~ Goo- I'm sure you've heard of them. They love feedback. Haha. So if you're ok with alot of feedback then you'll be fine with this. I looove Thurston Moores voice (the lead singer).

Bright Eyes~ Fevers and Mirrors . I'm not sure what category they fall under, but they've been called pop-punk and indie. Conor Oberst sing-talks and the music isn't very heavy. Theres pianos, acoustic guitars and orchestra used. At first i didn't like it, its one of those CDs you have to listen to a couple times to like it. But all in all the music and lyrics are very creative.

So you may want to download some songs from those albums if you don't want to buy them.
I would recommend more but I'm not sure of you're music taste and I like alot of different types of rock. Do you like Emo? Theres just so many different kinds!

Hi--I'm on here writing my fan fic and have momentary writer's block, so a good time for a break.  I've heard that Bright Eyes is good, so will check into them.

Yup--Sonic Youth's Goo is excellent, another classic. I saw Sonic Youth play outdoors at Bumbershoot in Seattle a few years back, but they were kinda boring. Some bands are just meant for small, crowded clubs for the full effect, you know?

I like just about anything, except for boring female singers. You know, not much into Enya and all that. I really like punk, but I think you can be punk rock with just an acoustic guitar and a lot of attitude, a la the great early Elvis Costello stuff. The Clash were amazing as well. And in my little universe, Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie is a GOD.

From early 90s time period I like Poster Children, Buffalo Tom, and recently listen to Guided by Voices a lot. I am into disaffected Midwestern bar bands. I like the Detroit sound--Iggy Pop and the Stooges, MC5, you know, precursers to the whole White Stripes thing.

I feel hopelessly unhip because I can't keep up with the kids these days and their newfangled music (okay sort of joking), but there is seriously so much older music that I feel I still need to discover.

Other random faves: the CD Gone Again by Patty Smith. She wrote it after her husband (in the band MC5) and brother died. It's mainly acoustic and just so intense.

I like Squeeze and Crowded House, those British 80's bands a lot. I would like to do some Squeeze covers if I sing and learn the guitar. You know, "Goodbye Girl," and "Black Coffee in Bed."

Anyway, that's everything I know for now.  Please share your picks, moomoo lady.

Oh, and to stay on topic--Pixies rule!
