Anti-Spam protection scheme

Hi there,
I just wanted to inform you about a little addition to the "report to moderator" function:
- you must enter a comment (an empty comment will not be accepted) - you must correctly copy the anti-spam code of the function.
These measures have been introduced to stop those who think it funny to report tens or even hundreds of threads to us from doing so. I'm sorry this'll make it a *bit* more complicated for those not abusing this feature, but it certainly will make it much more painful for those who do it just to give us a lot superfluous emails to read...
Thanks a lot for your understanding, /jochen

~grins~ Not a stupid question at all, LOL. Whenever someone clicks on the "report to moderator" link of a post, an image showing a short sequence of letters and numbers will be created on the server. Without entering this sequence, people cannot successfully submit the report.
BTW, this is completely the same function as with the guestbook. There we had the problem that someone kept using an automatic script to post adverts for drug selling or online game websites. But as you will understand, it's so much more unlikely people will abuse this feature if there is some kind of effort to make to use it

I respect and agree with your decision. If your
Quote:| lot superfluous emails to read... | is anything like the chain e-mails I get from my friend(!) then I know it can be annoying!

No prob It's my guess there are some members who are annoyed with other members, the moderators, the board (and, most probably, with themselves). Or maybe they're just bored and think it's fun...?
Anyway, two days ago, every moderator received 130 emails within just 10 minutes entitled "report to a moderator", which were sent by the board since someone found it funny to click on this link (probably for one of the above mentioned reasons) 130 times.
To prevent this kind of flooding (or spamming) the moderators with such useless emails, I added this anti-spam-code thingy. So, whenever a user wants to report a thread she (or he) thinks is a bit "out of bounds", a 6-digit code must be entered to successfully submit such a report. This is merely to discourage people from reporting posts out of boredom (or to cause annoyance on our side).
Did that clear it up for you?

Thanks for explaining that, Jochen.
Don't these people have anything better to do?
