The Fan Creativity Mods have begun running monthly (at least, I think it's monthly) writing contests where anyone can enter and there are voting forms and everything. There are also a few other contests that take place from time to time, but the writing thing seems to be the only constant thing going on.
There have been discussions about this before, and lots of people got excited, but the simple fact is that it IS difficult to coordinate something, especially when things in real life (as you've said) come up. So if you want to run something, feel free to contact one of the mods to help you set that up. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to offer you.

This is a thought I had while I uploaded some pictures from Photobucket. It would be a lot more simple and easier if you could have an attachment where you simply upload pictures from your hard drive onto the post. The Lost forum has that. It is a bit of a drag having to open up Photobucket and upload first. It's just my opinion, I don't know whether it's hard to do or not.

I'm not sure of the coding for that, but honestly, it takes me MAYBE thirty seconds to upload something to photobucket, so I don't think it's a big issue, and I can't see it attracting more users.
