I missed this at the time Liz, but remembered River privately. <3
I was always a fan of his work, though I didn't used to have a big crush on him... but have recently developed a little bit of an obsession with River for some reason.
IMO he was the victim of many forces, and copped a lot of unwarranted criticism in the wake of his death. While he most certainly wasn't a perfect human being (who is?) I feel an almost overwhelming sadness whenever I think of him... it's hard to explain, and I'd probably sound like a nutter if I tried.

^ All my life I've tended to be attracted to dead movie/rock stars (Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Jim Morrison of The Doors among them) ... but I don't think their early deaths were a major contributing factor in my fandom.
What I mean is... I was already a fan of people like River, and musicians John Lennon, Kurt Cobain and Elliott Smith when they died.
However, I guess there's a certain undeniable enigma/aura of glamour that surrounds famous people whose lives end in tragic circumstances. Maybe it has to do with being frozen at the height of their creative talent and beauty, leaving so much untapped potential.
