hi, i'm new here and my english is not very good, but i have got a question: i saw this funny interview in which dominic monahan interviews elijah; i think you fans know which one i mean. so my question is: what is so funny about the sentence "when will you wear wigs?" i mean, i understand the sentences..he asks him, whether we is wearing wigs, or have worn wigs, or will wear wigs and then when he will wear wigs, but i really don't understand what it is so funny about that. is it, because almost all words in this sentence begin with a w? i'm looking forward to your answers. greetz

Could you provide a link to the interview? I don't know what interview you're talking about.

I think it's funny because...*thinks* Hmm, I've never thought about comedy like this until now, hahahaha, lol.
Hmm why do I think it's funny...I think the way he says it (ven vill you vear vigs)...and the fact that he asks Elijah those silly questions..
"DO you wear wigs??" "Have you worn them" "Would you" "WHEN would you??"
It's like...asking someone WHEN they would wear wigs is just so silly, lol. It's supposed to be a celebrity interview...what serious journalist asks a celebrity 4 or 5 questions about wigs??? LOL...
I think the absurdity of it is what makes it so funny, and I think absurdity applies to a lot of comedy...which is why comedy is....FUNNY, lol.
I hope that helps.

well, alright. i just thought it also has another funny connotation, apart from the fact that its paradoxical to ask that silly questions *lol. i thought that, because after the last question “when will you wear wigs?” elijah first faltered and then nearly died laughing. I was sure that there is something really funny hidden in this sentence which i don’t understand...maybe an allusion to something or an idiom or whatever. And i considered whether there could be a word which sounds like “wear” and “wigs” together, with a totally different meaning, you know? *lol* when will you “wearwigs”... but okay, if you, as someone who has a good command of the english language (i think), say that there is nothing more to laugh about than this paradox about asking such question, then i think i don’t have to muse on the meaning of this part in this interview any longer. (omg, my english is sh***) so thanks for answering greezt

lol, well I'm from the US, and English is my first language, and I've only ever lived in the US, and I'm an English major in college (uni) so yeah, good command of the language, lol. And considering Dom is from the UK/born in germany, and Elijah is from the US like me, I doubt they really have any common idioms or sayings that they both would really know about.

well, i'm not such a big fan of them, so i don't know were they are from and so on. i just saw this interview and found it quite funny. my first language is german, and i'm living in germany, but this summer (or autumn at the latest) i will go to london for one year. one reason for that is to improve my english

No, he was born in Iowa, I believe he's always lived in America except for things like LOTR. Anyway, I think what is so funny about it is that Dom expects Elijah to somehow see into the future and realise when he will wear wigs...it just seems like such a specific question and I think thats funny! It could just be a private joke, also...

I thought this was LOTR related so I moved it over here.
Just to add to questions and comments, this interview was the Easter egg that's found on the Return of the King Extended DVD where Dom Monaghan stages an interview posing as "Hans Jensen" to interview Elijah and he actually thinks its a "real" interview because as the questions get more hilarious and unbelieving, you can see Lij making signs to what could possibly be his publicist off camera.
I remember I was laughing for ten minutes after I finished watching this. Its like the funniest thing I've seen in a long while
About the wig question, I think it could possibly mean that Elijah (as most of us know him to be..) was and is, always changing his hairstyles because in the interview you do hear Dom asking Lij about it. And the fact that he wore a wig as Frodo could be a reason, and as someone mentioned it could be joke between them!
Gosh. All this makes me want to watch that again!

I believe this is his decent, like his ancestors were from those countries. He wasn't born in the UK, he's American. I suppose he's spent so much time in New Zealand and some time in the UK filming, it isn't suprising that he's mistaken for coming from either one of those countries. He sometimes even sounds English.. he mentioned that "My accent is a sort of sponge for whatever I'm around" so that could explain it!
I hope everything makes sense now oh and welcome to A+F!

I don't think it was a private joke...i don't think Elijah realized it was Dom at that time..though it oculd have been one of the question lines that set him to wondering.
one thing for sure the discussion has made me want to watch it again. but Elijahs reaction made me feel like he was laughing at the absurdity of the questions not the questions themselves. And in all honesty who cares WHY he was laughing so hard and genuinely....it warms my heart, and thrills me to see him so hysterical.
