I've always loved most of his roles, but lately I'm getting really tired of all the dramas where he makes the "victim" look most of the time, or sulking. I also really enjoyed Kevin. I want to see him play characters with more dimension and ambiguity, and SMILE a bit more. Basically more range playing across his face. I'm not saying he's a bad actor, he just needs to bloom into more varied, challenging roles that represent his different capabilities. Which I'm sure is what he's doing.
That said, the only new role I'm truly interested in seeing so far is the Iggy Pop biopic.

i would love to see elijah in a horror movie or as a serial killer, hes always so lovely and innocent i wanna see him scared and angry

I know what you mean! Elijah is a great actor with great ambitions, which are shown up better in varied totally different roles. I'm so exited about the biopic, but also about OM.

THAT would be very interesting. A serial killer or psycho role with this angelic innocent look Elijahs...i'd love it! 
He was in a horror movie, the Faculty, so it's nothing new anymore. but i'd like to watch him in such roles too.

i think he and Natalie Portman would make a great on screen couple in a romantic comdey. they would look really good together.

I want to see him branch out into stage work, even just short term, and especially I'd love to see him play Hamlet.
That said, I'd also like to see him do more comedy.

I'd like to see him pull off a role that everyone would think he's too good for. Just really come out and be a bad boy or something. All in favor for him being St. Jimmy or Jesus of Suburbia in the American Idiot movie that is supposed to be coming out, say "aye"! I think that he'd be better at Jesus of Suburbia, because from what I can tell, the Jesus of Suburbia has this innocence about him though he's getting involved with his more recalcitrant side throughout the entire album, especially with hanging out with St. Jimmy and being talked into drugs and stuff ("Give me Novacaine"). As far as a co-star to go with him as St. Jimmy, I think Dom would do very well. He does a heck of a job as Charlie! Whatshername (who the JOS falls in love with) would have to be rebel-ish ("She's a Rebel") so maybe Emilie de Ravin. She was incredible in that one flashback (Lost) as her punk self. She looked the part! What do you guys think (if you even know what I'm talking about)?

I'd just like to see him play a stronger, more assertive character instead of the low-key observers/victims he plays a lot of the time. Like the leading man in a romantic comedy/drama or something (I'd like to see him and Natalie Portman together), or as a serial killer in a crime drama. I think it'd be more interesting to see someone as outwardly innocent-looking as Elijah playing a villain than someone who just looks evil anyway.

I'd rather see him use his comedy chops..we know he's got them. Also, maybe a role where he was caregiver to a child like "Man on Fire" or something.
Also a romantic role. :-D

Anything that he has to use his emotions in those are his best roles.
ie..
 crying
 being scared
 love
Those sort of emotions..
A really gritty emotional drama would be ideal with a touch of love in.

I would have to agree with those of you who said you;d like to see him do comedy - I think he;s a very funny person.
But I mostly love the roles where he gets hurt  becuase he looks so naturally vulnerable.

Dramatic roles. Lij is so good doing that. Frodo of course is my favorite and Matt Buckner of Green Street Hooligans,too.
But also he was good playing a villain in Sin City. I want him to do comedy roles too. In fact he 's a good actor and any role he plays would be great for him

I've only just discovered this thread as I've been away for months.
I'd love to see him play a gay character and have screen kisses and a sex scene with another man because that would be incredibly hot.
I also like him playing bad boys, it would be good to see him play a serial killer. I've not seen 'Sin City' yet, I understand he is truly bad in that film.
