I guess she figures she has sold most of the HP books she is going to. The fact that he's gay has nothing to do with the story, and could really put a dent in the sales figures. I bet the film people and publishers groaned a bit when she said it. The films are still being marketed as largely for kids.
This opinion is, of course, only considering the business side of things.
Art is something else ENTIRELY!
Her fanfic remarked CRACKED ME UP! Isn't THAT the truth??? LOL

i can't believe there is still such a problem with homosexuality in the world. it just baffles me... i wonder if JK really even cares now about sales...she's got more money than she could ever spend. And everyone's hooked, i think even those people who have a problem with homosexuality would crack eventually out of curiosity...
I feel sorry for the kids who's parents are banning them, it's not like there's any gay content in there.
i really think it could only be a good thing for building tolerance...

I don't see that it has any relevance on the storyline whether Dumbledore is gay or not, but I think its awful that parents are banning their children from reading it. What a way to bring up your children.

I can't see what the point is in knowing that Dumbledore is gay....
And it's not the fact that Dumbledore is gay that makes parents not let their kids read HP. It's because of the witchcraft, it's against church and bible and stuff. i also know people who tell their kids not to read the books and it's because they're religious and witchcraft is not allowed.

I know that a lot of parents wouldn't let their kids read the books because of witchcraft, but now I know parents who won't let them read the books purely because Dumbledore is gay.

Sort of is such a harmless thing to say, it's just a filler, it doesn't really mean anything. But after certain things sort of means everything - like after "I love you" or "You're going to live."

I don't agree with you, because nothing really shows that Dumbledore is gay. I never read anything about his sexuality.

One of the stories I read on the net said that some parents have turned against the books in the very short time since Ms. Rowling made her statement.
Now, I have no idea how they know this. Internet postings, maybe?
Yes, a lot of people are against the books because of the witchcraft. Frankly, I see no difference between these books and the fairy tales on which I grew up. To me, it isn't even about magic, but another retelling of the standard good/evil literary paradigm.
In these books, the ultimate "magic" is love.

Oh, dear. I can't imagine my parents ever banning me from reading books about magic. I guess it depends. Though you;re right Rach - the books do spread the message that love is the greatest power anyone can have, so its sad that some people just ignore it.
Poor JKR. She must be coming in for a lot of insults after her statement, but it shows her tolerance for everyone and thats a good thing.

I myself have never read any of the harry potter books but for parents to 'BAN' their kids from reading them is preposterous in my eyes, believe me there are worse subjects a book can cover than magic!!!

I agree with both of your comments Pamela!!
It's not all because that Dumbledore is gay, and most of it is because of the witchcraft..Yeah I've seen parents doing that. even in Islam, not only Christianity 
And you're right, the fact that Dumbledore has not been mentioned in the bo0k and I think it's a new news, so then parents are checking all HP news all the time?  lolz!
and I was wondering, if Neville married Hannah, um...I though she was with Ernie McMillan?

I dare say the parents banning the books haven't read them to know that there isn't any gay content. It's a shame the things people miss out on because of lack of tolerance of alternate ways of life.

I never did either. I personally know a couple who absolutely will not let their children read the books, they only decided this over the weekend, and they told me that it is specifically because Dumbledore is gay. I have told them that you wouldn't ever know just by reading the books but they don't believe me....

it's not a shame they miss the "lovely stories"!! It's a shame these parents have brooms stuck up their *sses!! I hate it when people are intolerant over gay people!! I totally do, I mean, I know gay guys and they are the sweetest!
I mean, sure, according to the bible people have to produce babies and gay people can't do that and whatever religious people use to be against gay people, but I mean, like it's an OPTION to be gay or straight!
oh well, that's really offtopic, but for what I know, there is nothing to worry about on the gay topic because the characters always show straight-feelings, if you know what I mean.
