If you like books about mental illnesses, you should read "I never promissed you a rosegarden", I love that book.

Deborah, a girl who's schizofrenic, lives in two worlds: Our world, called Earth-world and her own world, called Yr. In the Yr are all kinda gods, good and bad gods. She is brought into a mental hospital by her parents, because she tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists. In that hospital you learn all kinda things about her. How she became who she is now and what happens in the Yr and stuff.

It's really fascinating.

It all depends on what kind of themes you're into.  For instance I love Raymond Khoury's The Last Templar because I love reading about The Knights Templar, but you may not be and so this story might not appeal to you.

A great book is 'Milkweed' by Jerry Spinelli - and for more about war, try 'March' by geraldine...oh bother can't remember her name, but it was a continuation of the girls out of Little Women's father in the American civil war- powerful stuff!

In that case I'm sure you have read Dan Brown...

Hello fellow book lover, happy hunting.
I'll let you know about any suggestions I may have..

My favourite authors are (among others) John Grisham, Virginia Andrews, Stephen King..

Another really good book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Since I suck at summaries, this is what Wikipedia has to say:

The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a well-to-do Pashtun boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime.

We read this last year in English....such a powerful book.

Also, check out some books by Jodi Picoult, she's a very prolific author and her books tend to deal with moral issues---they really get you hooked and thinking in new ways!

Another book we read for English class is 'The Last Days of Summer' by Steve Kluger. We actually got to meet him, which was fantastic! This book is an epistletory (sp?) novel, so its told primarily in letters....but it's so emotional and humorous....a good book all around.

(there are so many good books out there......its so hard to choose)

Another great book is a book I wrote my senior term paper on: Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis. Great book, here's the Wikipedia summary:

Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold is a dramatic retelling of the Greek myth of Cupid and Psyche, predicated by C. S. Lewis from a chapter of The Golden Ass of Apuleius. The first part is written from the perspective of Psyche’s ugly eldest sister Orual, as a long-withheld accusation against the gods. Although the book is set in the fictional kingdom of Glome, Greece is often mentioned. In effect, the story deals with the interplay between the Hellenistic, rationalistic world-view and the powerful, irrational, primitive one.

Happy book hunting!
