I really loved it! I loved the way it dealt with prejudice on so many levels and I always sympathised more with candy than anyone else for some reason - everytime he was in a scene I felt sad!

In my personal opinion: Awesome book.
It was really great. It is a scholarly read, so keep that in mind. It's assigned in schools. But its also a really great story AND an easy read.
The themes and motifs in the book are what make it such a good read. Lenny is such an interesting character as well.
The book shows things like the impossibility of the American dream there are things the main characters want but will never get. The companionship between two men, the predatory nature of humans.
etc. etc.
I could rant on.
But you should take the time to read it and see what you get out of it.
(There is a movie to. FYI)

Yes, I say the movie too, and it was so sad!!
I read it in school for the first time but it didn't feel like it was for an exam because I actually enjoyed reading it by myself!

I read it at school for my GCSE English many years ago, and we went to see a production of it at the Mermaid Theatre London.
I love this book, I really engaged emotionally with the two central characters and I cried a lot when reading it.

Maybe if you read it you'd cry, Elizabeth! Its a really heartbreaking story, I cried buckets.

This was one of my favorite books. I finished reading it in the back of my parent's car, and i cried all the way home. lol.

Could never get into Steinbeck...for some reason I find his writing a bit creepy and depressing.
That said, we were forced to read this at school, along with other 'classics' such as 'Tess' and 'Far from the Madding Crowd' by Thomas Hardy, 'Jane Eyre' by Emily Bronte, which I also didn't enjoy much at the time.
But that was about twenty years ago now - perhaps I should give them another chance...what do you think?
However, we also had to read 'The Crucible' and 'Macbeth' which I kind of got into, and they are definitely creepy, so go figure!

Of Mice and Men is a beautiful story, you should read it Lanta. My teacher gave me his copy to read and then after he said I could keep it. I thought it was lovely.
