Don't mind at all, Carina - I think it's an interesting question.
Yes - for me, it's seeing the ads on TV, the Coke ads and a Guinness ad that is usually shown around the first/second week of December. Even though I start feeling Christmassy then, I never really put decorations up or start shopping until halfway through (haven't started yet, lol!).

Pamela, Carina - Sinterklaas and Nikolaus sound interesting! Do people get presents then?
Carina - baking those cookies must have been fun! I usually make mince pies on Christmas eve. My favourite Christmas film has to be 'Elf' though.

Yeah, it's like a man and he comes here mid-November from Spain with his helpers and kids put their shoes by the fire place and when they go and check it the next morning there's like little toys or candy in them. And then December 5th, Sinterklaas' birthday, he lets his helpers put bags full of presents by the door. It's so sweet. It's somewhat like Santa Clause, although it's not during Christmastime and Sinterklaas doesn't have elves, but other kind of helpers. lol. I never liked it much, because the helpers are always waaaay too hyper and happy haha.

Pamela - thanks for the info on Sinterklaas - it sounds like a fun tradition. Christmas is the 25th everywhere but I think Jen and Raquel mean that it's interesting that you have such a tradition as well...

No, it's absolutely not 25th everywhere!
In Norway, the highlight of Christmas is the 24th. That's when we go to church, eat great dinner and open the presents Santa Claus (julenissen) brings us.
But advent starts on the last Sunday in November/first in December and that's when I start decorating a bit, listening to Christmas music and eat Christmas candy

Interesting, Marit!
We have advent here too - I think it's mainly a Catholic celebration here. In Mass there's a wreath of evergreens and five candles, and the priest lights one every week in advent.
Does anyone else have an advent calendar to count down December until Christmas?

I've got that kind of calendar! And we have four candles for the four Sundays.
On Christmas Eve, we get to open one present in the morning. Then we have saffron buns and hot chocolate. Later, we eat rice porridge, before going to church (I'm a Protestant). After Church, we go home and eat Turkey, pork rib, rack of lamb ribs or other traditional food for dinner and different kinds of cakes for dessert. After that, we open our presents. We also put out a bowl of rice porridge for the nisse to eat. That's an old tradition, because people believed that a nisse lived in the barn and took care of the animals there, and wold mistreat them if he didn't get his porridge.
