I think they're heading for great success in 2006. I heard their new single, When The Sun Goes Down on the radio this morning - its even better than 'dance floor'!! I can't wait to download it!

I like them. I owned a few of their songs before dancefloor was released because a guy i met out once kept on about how great they were.

I resurrected this thread because their new album has finally been released.
They have had so much publicity here in Britain I was worried their album wouldn't live up to all the hype. Fortunately, for me it has - I think it's brilliant!

You know it's ridiculous that this band is so big now and I still haven't heard any of their songs.

Rai, are you sure?! They're so hyped in the UK. You can't escape them. They are good though.

Yep, I'm about 5 years behind the rest of the world with music. I only listen to music when I'm in work and my shop is stuck in a time warp, all I hear is boy bands from the 90s.

Sort of a grocery store/newagents. Like the Spar but smaller, so they give us a TV to entertain ourselves. We're only allowed to watch TMF though. And they don't play good music on a Saturday morning.

I'm the same way! I just read an article online last week about them and the billion CDs they sold when their album came out! It sounds crazy!
Quote:Artic Monkeys Sell Thousands on First Day 01/25/2006 9:24 AM, AP
The Arctic MOnkeys sold almost 120,000 copies of thier debut album in a single day, and it may become one of the year's top-sellers, retailers said.
The British band shot from obscurity to fame in a matter of months, thanks partly to a savvy use of the Internet to market their music to fans.
A stream of adulatory media articles followed, and the group's debut singles, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" and "When the Sun Goes Down," both topped the British singles chart.
The band's album, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not," sold 118,501 copies within 24 hours of it's release Monday, more than the rest of the top 20 album chart combines. If sales hold up, it will become Britian's fastest-selling debut, surpassing the 306,631 copies sold by Hear'Say's "Popstars" in 2001.
Phil Penman, head of music for retailer HMV, said Tuesday the Monkeys were "well on their way to having the first million-selling album of 2006."
Formed in 2003, the quartet from Sheffield in northern England signed last year to Domino, the independent record label that is home to Scots rockers Franz Ferdinand.

I bit too hyped up for me, but I must admit I like the song: When the sun goes down.
That Dance Floor song is getting on my nervs.
It's amazing how huuuuge in North America they were before their album even came out. Mind blowing.
Must be fun to dance to though *shrugs*
But I can't dance....

yay! i love the Arctic Monkeys!!
though they arent very popular around here where i live. which is good...because usually when i like a song, it gets over-played on the radio and i end up hating it (case and point: "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter, "Beautiful" by James Blunt, and "Over My Head" by The Fray)
but i absolutely love "I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor" (not the longest song name in history, i swear...) i try to request it at dances for the school and stuff, but nobody seems to know who they are...even though i wrote an article about them for the school newspaper last year...*grumbles*

I saw them live recently, they're pretty good! I hadn't heard any of their songs yet though. But now I downloaded some songs. Fake tales of San Fransisco I like!
