they are so scary what was the force of yours here was 7.1 the same as the one in Haiti I was so surprised when heard only one person died of heart attack considering the severity of the quake and the extensive damage to the buildings..

7.1!?

I'm glad that you're not hurt, Elizabeth. You or Mark. *hugs again*

Last week in my Geography class, we were getting ready for a test and we discussed tectonic plates and the map locations... not a pretty site. Lots of'em. :-\

Earthquakes are part of nature, but have records of deep deals of trouble...

I had one here, but it was mostly felt in Toronto back in June of this year.

I was doing my math exam, and I thought it was the guy behind me kicking me. When it happened again, everyone felt it. But again, it wasn't felt much everywhere I lived. My school is not 5 minutes from my grandmother's house and she didn't feel anything :P

thanks Allie - yeah NZ is on top of 2 plates in the pacific ring of fire so prone to earthquakes- nature isn't stopping us wanting to live here tho!

I don't recall the scale but it was quite high. It was actually the worst quake we've had in 25 years. We got them every few years or so. I believe some poor people did die from trees collapsing on them.

We've had many earthquakes in the area where I live, but as far as I can remember non of them were higher than 6.

Well... I have never felt scared although it is not a very joyful experience...
You really don't get used to them. I have a friend from Peru and there they have one almost every day...

Will be interesting to see how I react with earthquakes in the future esp if planning on eventually living here in nz - will I get used to them and not be scared anymore or will I always get scared - who knows ::)

I'm glad you and Mark are OK, Elizabeth! It's good that there was only one death because of the NZ earthquake, though. It must have been handled reallly well.

I've never been in an earthquake, and wouldn't want to be either (obviously :P ). I bet it's terrifying.

It was handled very well, yes and now unless you venture into certain parts of the city you wouldnt know there had been an earthquake!

No you dont want to experience one, ever

We had one a couple of weeks ago, but I slept through most of it but according to the news it was quite a big one. I actually thought it was my boyfriend passing wind....
