Someone was discussing this in the Abortion thread so here is athread for Adoption
What are your views?
I am fine with Adoption. If the child is born into a family that doesn't want them or they end up being abused. The best thing is to find a loving family who will treat that child with the love and respect it deserves

OK I don't really understand what you mean when you ask 'What are your views', do you mean do I think it's a good idea? Would I adopt a child? Would I put a child up for adoption?
I'll answer as best as I can. I would like to think that I wouldn't put a child of mine up for adoption. And I intend to adopt children in the future.
I say 'I would like to think that I..." because let's be honest, hardly if not none of us have been put in this situation and until we are we don't really know what we would do.

Sorry Vicky, yeah that's what I meant ;)
I agree with you Vicky apart from me and Mark as yet don't want children but in the future we shall see.
Part of me would love to adopt though or foster and I guess always will even if I never do :)

I agree too :) I'm not going to put my children up for adoption when I have any, but I would love to adopt a child. There are so many needy children in the world who need a loving home. I would love to help them out when I get older, I think it would be great. :)
There's this one song that always makes me cry, called "All I really want for Christmas", I think that's what it's called. It's like a little boy writing a letter to Santa Clause, saying all he wants for Christmas is a family. It just touches your heart so much. It's by Steven Curtis Chapman, and he's adopted 3 little girls from China. :)

I would adopt children :) I think it is much nicer than just letting them think and live through depression for why their mothers or father left them, when they can have a mother like me in the future
And besides, its like raising your own child, their kids, they're all the same
Also, I will not give up my child *in the future* for adoption because that is a beautiful moment in life, and you can never know if you cannot have one again after the first one.

I agree with pretty much what everyone else has said - I don't think I'd ever be able to give up my own child, but I might like to adopt one day.
Here's a question: What if someone you loved (say, a sister) very much wanted to have a child and couldn't have one with their long-term partner, and they asked you to be a surrogate mother for their child? Would you agree?

I may consider that mary, yes although I don't have a sister ;)

Hehe I have a sister but it'll be a cold day in Hell when I do anything for her. I wouldn't do surrogacy no, and I would expect anyone to do it for me.

You'd expect someone to do it for you but you wouldn't do it for anyone else?
I think I would do it - I guess it would be hard giving up a baby after pregnancy, but that might be made better by the fact that you'd still be able to see the child and have a close relationship with him/her. That's what I think, anyway. :)
