I agree - it's very sad. But also, not really, because he's going to be with his Creator. When I heard the news about this yesterday, a post either here or on another board, I thought it was a joke - it was April Fool's Day, remember. Now I feel bad just for thinking that. :-[

Yes. It's very sad to see someone like the Pope go, because you think he's the Pope and he's going to be around for a while. Rest in Peace, Pope.

I'm not Catholic, so I don't "follow" the Pope, but I believe he is still a man to be respected and honored. I do not know his life story or anything, but it is always sad to see people like him go. I know he will be missed, but we all have our time. Today was his...

Yes, he was definitely a man to be respected. I wonder who will step up to take the place of Pope...that will be an interesting change...it is sad to see Pope John Paul go, because it's going to be very hard shoes to fill. I mean, that is power too, and I hope whoever steps up to take it understands that...I hope it is not misused.

My condolences to all of you who are Catholic. I am sure this is a sad time for all of you and you have my deepest sympathy. I have had great respect for the Pope over the years, even though I am not a Catholic.

I know, some people are being so disrespectful on other forums, I mean i know i havent exactly been the nicest person to Catholics because some of our beliefs etc clash, but he was a truely good man and i dont deny that....

That is one thing I appreciate about this forum. Even if we disagree with each other, most of the members are respectful. It would really bother me if people were being disrepectful to the Pope or to Catholics, especially on the day of the Pope's death! I am glad that the people on this forum are not as insensitive as that!

I'd like to thank you for this thread. I thought to open one myself and then I found myself fixed to the TV screen, hearing the latest news about POPE JOHANNES PAUL II death.
I knew he was very sick but it was a real shock to hear that he finally has died. I am Catholic and he was the leader of my church. It's like my father had died and I think many people in the world will feel the same. He was an honorable man who always tried the best to make the world a better place. He has gone home to our father in heaven. My heart and soul is crying and praying for him.
All my thoughts are with him and I know he is at a better place now.

Johannes Paul rest in peace.

I hope that he may rest in peace and be with the Lord.

RIP Pope John Paul II.

I am very sad to see such a good, kind person pass away, yet at the same time, I am glad to see his sufferings have ended. He's been sick for quite awhile, and I'm happy that he is done suffering and that he is on his way to see God in heaven. :)

His soul will be in my prayers, along with the Cardinals that now have to decide on a new Pope. I hear that this might be the first time an African (African-American? I don't know exactly) Pope will be elected.

My deepest sympathies to all the Catholics on this forum and around the world on this sad day.

Though, I'm not a Christian, for I'm a Muslim, but I have always admired and appreciated him on his efforts to bring peace in the world and to bridge the gaps between the different religions of the world.

He was an honourable and respectable man.

May he rest in peace.

Yeah. I always felt bad for him when he'd be trying to make speeches, when it was hard enough for him to talk, even, and he'd just be shaking and near collapse. He didn't just lie in bed and go "I'm sick, I'm not going out." I'd do that. I do that when I have a stomache-ache. He was a really strong guy.

And I could never be that dedicated to anything.

Not the first time, just the first time in a long while I think. He's not the favourite to be elcted though.

I'm a Catholic (technically) and although I didn't agree with a few of the Pope's ideas he was a faithful, incredibly intelligent and dedicated man who deserves a lot of respect for his work with the poor and oppressed, and for working together with other religions.

What about our own Cardinal Danneels? He's still named as one of the main candidates and personally, I think he would be a very good pope. I actually have a lot of respect for him and he's not that old-fashioned.

I've been watching the news most of the weekend and the coverage has been so touching and moving, Pope John Paul II was a remarkable man. Eventhough I never really followed his life that much, I can say that much.

May the Lord grant him eternal rest and let perpetual light shine on him. A faithful servant has returned home indeed.

It is very hard time for me. I'm Christian, and I love Pope John Paul II, He was like father for me.. He was amazing man, so full of love and wisdom.. He showed us how to live, how to love other people..
I'm Polish, so it's much harder for me..
But I know he is happy now, in the Home of our Father. And He will be in our hearts forever

    R.I.P The Pope...

I am saddened by the passing of the pope but he was in suffering for his final months and god in heaven decided to let his time on earth end, he would always honoured and still remain a revered man as he was the most notable pope of the times and for the nearly 3 decades he was in power, he was a great and noble man and deeply missed.

Let him rest in eternal peace in the heavens...

and not because dont accept that the people someday must die, but is lamentable that the world loses to one of the best men than has existed, the sadness to assume when the kind people no longer will be here, and theres very few persons like him in the world . but I'm calm because he was suffering much so now he's with God, I'm sure, because the Pope really deserves to be in the heaven by everything what did by the humanity
John Paul II takes our hearts
    rest in peace

Now, the Pope is one of God's angels, because he carried God's message to different parts of the world. He was a servant of God.
An example to all of us. Rest in Peace, John Paul II.

he did so much for the world, not just for catholics, but for every religion and race. i think, by far, he was one of the most accomplished popes there ever were.

I'm not Catholic, as I've stated before. But something I recently read in the newspaper made me realize how much Catholics and Protestants really have in common. To be honest, I'm so quick to point out our differences (not that I'm prejudiced or anything-just human, sometimes ::)) that I forget how similar we are. I invite you to read this. I will type it over, because I feel it would be more fitting than to just give you a link, that and the fact that I read it in an actual newspaper, not online.

A Final Prayer from the Pope

The text of the prayer read by Archbishop Leonardo Sandri at a Mass at St. Peter's Square. Sandri said Pope John Paul II prepared the prayer himself before he died Saturday.

    Dearest Brothers and Sisters!
The joyous Hallelujah of Easter resonates today too. Today's page of John's Gospel emphasizes that he who was Resurrected, the evening of that day, appeared before the Apostles and "showed them his hands and his side" (John 20,20), that is, the signs of the painful passion that were marked indelibly onto his body even after the resurrection. Those glorious wounds, which eight days later he made the unbelieving Thomas touch, reveal the mercy of God who "so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son" (John 3,16).

This mystery of love is at the center of today's liturgy of Sunday in Albis, dedicated to the cult of Divine Mercy.

To humanity, which at times appears lost and dominated by the power of evil, of selfishness and fear, the Lord resurrected offers as a gift his forgiving love, reconciles and reopens the spirit to hope. It is a love that converts hearts and gives peace. How much need the world has to understand and receive Divine Mercy! Oh Lord, who with your death and resurrection reveal the love of the Father, we believe in You and with confidence we repeat today: Jesus, I trust in You, have mercy of us and the entire world.

The liturgic solemnity of the Annunciation, that we will celebrate tomorrow, pushes us to contemplate with the eyes of Mary the immense mystery of this merciful love that springs from the Heart of Christ. Helped by her we can understand the true sense of the joy of Easter, which is based on this certainty: He whom the Virgin carried in her womb, who suffered and died for us, is truly resurrected. Hallelujah!

I hope that, even if you are not "religious" or even Christian at all, that this touches your heart as much as it touched mine. We are all brothers and sisters. In Christ, and in humankind! ;)
