Title: Which movies make you cry
Post by: jubeth on October 02, 2006, 06:10:57 am

I often cry at films and I was wondering what films (excluding Lord of the Rings) have made other members tear up. Here is a list of some of the films that have made me sniffle:

Watership Down
E.T.
Finding Neverland
Philadelphia
Never Ending Story
Brokeback Mountain

These are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

For me the music in Watership Down is the thing which always sets me off without fail, that song 'Bright Eyes' by Art Garfukle when it plays near the end of the film just makes me cry all the damn time.

I think the better question for me would be what movies DON'T make you cry, haha.

Let's see: Titanic, Lost and Delirious, Finding Neverland, The Perfect Storm, Boys Don't Cry, Saving Private Ryan, Life As A House, Sweet November, Ladder 49, Dangerous Lives Of Alter Boys, Brokeback Mountain, Philadelphia, A Little Princess, The Pianist, Cold Mountain, Man In The Moon, Four Brothers, Toy Soliders (Sean Astin!), United 93, Stand By Me.

I could keep going, haha. And the thing is I own all those movies, so whenever I need a good cry I just watch one. Movies get me very emotional, as you can tell ;P

I cry so often when I watch films. Even romantic films make me cry, I'm such a baby ::)

Some examples:

Nothing Hill (makes me cry every time)
Love actually
Dirty dancing :o
...

I don't really know why because in real live I don't cry that often, only when I'm really sad.

Other films that made me cry:
Return of the king
Forest Gump
...

And all films where children die, or people die of a disease...

Oh yes I agree with you, I usually cry when then is a death of a person also an animal dying makes me cry.

I have remembered another film which made me cry 'Schindler's list' I was an emotional wreck after that. :'(

Romeo And Juliet
Tuck Everlasting

And...That's all I could think of right now.

Title: Re:Which movies make you cry
Post by: Hyper_gurl on October 06, 2006, 07:21:37 pm

Lets see:

Brokeback Mountain
Hotel Rwanda
Love Actually
Pride and Prejudice
Pieces of April
Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (don't you DARE laugh)
Lord of the Rings 1, 2, and 3
Rent (less like "cried" and more like "bawled myself horse")
Finding Neverland
Harry Potter 4 (again, no laughing. Please. I just get emotional at movies)
Sense and Sensibility
Moulin Rouge
Schindlers List

God, there are so many more, i just can't remember them all. Usually any war movie will make me cry. Or any romance movie.

The movies that get me every single time i watch them are:

Love Actually (that scene in which the wife finds out her husband is cheating AND the scene in which Colin Firth proposes. Every single time, I'm crying)
Pride and Prejudice

Title: Re:Which movies make you cry
Post by: jubeth on October 06, 2006, 08:00:05 pm

I've just remembered some more
Bent (I am never watching it again, I felt awful afterwards)
Jesus of Montreal
West Side Story
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Kingdom Of Heaven

Sometimes I'll stay completley dry eyed throughout a film and then if I watch it at the wrong time of the month I can't stop crying.

Return of the King, The Notebook, West Side Story, Moulin Rouge, Schindler's List...

And finally, Cast Away. When Wilson floats away, I can't help it!

I can't even remember how many movies I've cried at. My friend's and I just get all, "not gonna cry, not gonna cry" but we end up tears rolling down our faces anyway. ::)

I hate animals dying in movies too, it's awful to watch :'(

I cry at loads of movies. Titanic, A Walk To Remember, Dirty Dancing, Dumbo (it's heartbreaking!), Bambi.. all sorts, I'd be here all night listing them all!

Most Disney films make me cry to be honest. One time me and my friend were watching Beauty and the Beast and we both burst into tears at the same time lol.

Well, I'll tell ya I am a tough sell...that is I do not cry easily..I was raised that to show emotion was an embarrassment...It is one of the ways that LOTRs has helped me imensely.

True heart felt films of love and loss touch me, but those left behind in the films must convince me that they feel it.

Sam Feels it in ROTK, Frodo feels it in FOTR so many times his sense of loss is palpable.

Gladiator made me weep, his utter loss at discovering his family murdered touched me.....

Braveheart ripped me up several times and remains one of my all time favorite films.

Now I just happen to be watching one of my favorite Elijah tear jerkers, now as I respond to this post I am watching "The War". I had never seen it until I started looking for all of Elijahs older films to add to my collection. When I watched it...it was so raw and painful..I cried at least twice the middle and the end get me every time.

Like I said its not easy for me to 'feel' it and I am always glad when I do...Its hard as an ER nurse to let go, you spend so much time holding it all in it is great to find that release in tears, tears for the film characters and for all the other pain suffering and loss I see all too frequently............... :'(

Title: Re:Which movies make you cry
Post by: Blue Star on October 24, 2006, 02:01:21 am

I almost NEVER cry in ANY movie. Even Lord of the Rings. I think in a few parts I may have gotten a little bit watery eyed... but most of the intense emotions were just making my arms and hands twitch like crazy against the arm-holders. That jittery excitement...

I probably have a movie (or two) that's slipped past my memory of how I reacted to it, but I've only actually cried tears in two movies. One of them wasn't really even because of what was going on in the movie. It reminded me painfully of something else. The other one, The Forgotten, made me actually cry because the girl in the movie was traumatized by a horrible and graphic death of someone else and she made me feel for her. I get uncomfortably emotionally triggered by little girls crying. Like in War of the Worlds with Dakota Fanning. I don't know why.

I'm the same way. I never cry during movies. I usually don't even get misty eyed. Possibly because I've never worn my heart on my sleeve, and I'm VERY good at hiding all emotion. I wasn't even remotely tearful during the Grey Havens scene. I feel like a hardened person :P lol

There has only been one movie that made me cry like a baby, and that was Titanic. It's kind of strange though - I've seen it too many times to count, but it only made me cry once, and it wasn't the first time I saw it. I guess I was just overly emotional that day.

Other than that, I've never cried during a movie. Movies dealing with love, loss, regret, and injustice sometimes get me misty eyed though.

Hi

It depends on what mood i am in when watching a film but i no longer cry watching LOTR seen them too many times i am imune.only on rare occasions do i cry watching them now.

Generally true story films (specially ones with kids or babies in) if an animal dies too gets me every time.

I cried when i watched the remake of King Kong at the cinema, good thing it was loud or i'd have been embarrased. The bit where he was took of th island i thought it was cruel. Should have been allowed to stay. And when he fell of the Empire State building at the end.

Also cried during last convertations in United 93 and during the interviews with families of victims, really upsetting.

"Interview With A Vampire" also made me cry when the little girl and the woman they chose to be her mother was trapped in the room and no way out and the sun came through the hole in the roof and fried them. The one vampire dude was locked inside a coffin and couln't get out to help them till it was to late.
"Schindler's List" was another.
"Purple Rain".
"Independance Day" when the president's wife dies and he is in the hallway holding their little girl.

I just now finally got to see the movie "Tristan & Isolde" this made me cry at the end and it was very good. So I add to my list of movies that make me cry:

Tristan & Isolde

Oh and if I didn't put it down in my first list earlier "Lion King" made me cry too.

Pan's Labyrinth... :-[
Brokeback Mountain
Million Dollar Baby
We Are Marshall
Finding Neverland
Moulin Rouge!
The Sound of Music
The Notebook
Shakespeare in Love
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Dreamgirls

Of course LOTR

I could go on for a while.... :'(
Dear God - I even cry during TV shows.

Pay It Forward

Without a doubt, I will sob every single time I watch that movie.

I didn't cry at Pan's Labyrinth!! I get soooo choked up and even humming the little lullaby makes me really sad, but I for some reason never cried. It was quite odd.

Almost anything can make me cry so my list is almost a mile long. lol

If Only
Finding Neverland
LOTR
Pay it Forward
The Notebook
Bridge to Teribithia
Tristin and Isolde
Green Street
The War

You can probably name almost any movie and I would have cried.
I wonder why I cry so much....

All movies can make me cry, if it happens something really sad or really good. But the movies that make me cry the most is LotR. Especially The Return of the King. I'm sure that I cried at least five times during it, maybe more. It's so many sad moments in this movie :'( When Frodo says bye to the Hobbits and smiles to them before he leaves, I just cried. I couldn't manage to hold my tears back :'( But there are also some good moments, and I remember that I began to cry when Arwen and Aragorn got married, cause they were so happy :)

The Little Princess, the bits near the end, where Sara tries to go to the other house on the beam and she says 'I'll come back for you, Becky'. And the bit where she meets her dad again.
And at the very end of ROTK, when Frodo goes off in the boat.
I cried at Happy Feet too, the bit where Mumble was imprisoned in the zoo and he was throwing the fish at the wall...so sad! :'(

[/quote]

Oh, my God, yes! Even the song by itself can set me off.

"Forrest Gump" got me too, as did "Ghost." The first movie that ever made me cry was "Tommy," the rock opera by the Who. When Roger Daltrey as Tommy finds the body of his mother (Ann-Margret) and sings "See Me, Feel Me" as if he's trying to wake her -- ohhhh! :'(

The second "X-Men" movie got me and my husband both. We just sat there and clung to each other as the credits rolled.

"Schindler's List" didn't make me cry -- it shocked me into a stunned silence, which I have since referred to as the "Schindler's List Effect." "Bobby" did it to me too.

It stars Mel Gibson when he was young and gorgeous and Mark Lee.

It's crazy, but I watched the new Parent Trap movie all the time as a kid and never found anything very sad, let alone enough to make me cry. Now that I'm a teenager, every time I watch the scene where they put the two ripped halves of the picture together and make that whole discovery, I can't keep my eyes dry. :'( I get a little misty even typing or thinking about it. Liz, yeah, it was a different type of sadness. It left a really big impression on me... I was pretty depressed for a while afterwards. Not the type of crying that I actually like. I'm really funny about that, I normally like emotional movies that make me cry a bit. But not that kind... I don't know if I could watch it again.

And, lol, I actually kinda forgot about the beginning of Up. I thought it was a really funny movie, but now that I think about it, yeah, the beginning was sad.

Up makes me cry of both happiness and sadness! It's so sad in the beginning! I cry my heart out! And then I shed some tears during the whole movie too ::)

But I'm not as "bad" as this woman ;D

I cried in the end of the movie Gladiator, LOL. Probably because of the music in the background, so beautiful and touchy(thats what I call music :P)
Titanic a bit, but not so much.

Wall-E had me whimpering. The Blind Side had me sobbing - could have been something in the air but I was a leaky faucet.

I just finished watching Hachi: A Dog's Story/Tale... I cried. But I found it so good. For those who liked Marley & Me will like this dog/owner story, too! I hope...
