Title: December Boys
Post by: Storyteller on September 08, 2007, 10:38:18 pm

Release dates and locations and other info on the release of "December Boys" can be found here.

Charlotte is as close as it's going to come to me, I'm afraid. I'll have to wait for DVD.

Hugs,
Rach

Thanks for link. Is this where you said there's a trailer? If so, I'll look at it Wednesday at work where I have a fast connection.

I'll have to wait for the DVD, too. :(

Why does the site only gives release dates for the US? Like there are no other countries?

Anyway, no date for Belgium anyway (according to imdb) but I do very much look forward to this films. I hope it makes it to our little country.

I spent a good few minutes looking for a release date for the UK....I saw a trailer on TV for it last night so I hope its coming here, though knowing my local cinema, I'll probably end up waiting for DVD. I hope its a good film, looks pretty different from anything Daniel Radcliffe's done before.

Maybe I just missed it but was it coming to NYC? I thought EVERYTHING went there first, but I don't remember seeing it on the list. I could have missed it though.

Rach

I had another look on the list, I couldn't see New York on there either. Not that it makes much difference to me though. ::) But I do hope I can see it sooner or later.

Thanks for the thread Rach :)

I have a question?! ??? He;ll lose him virginity in this movie, right? ??? ::) just curious knowing if that's right ::)

That's what I hear. He has been talking about it in his interviews here. He said that scene was more difficult than being nude in "Equus".

What rating is this? I thought it was a 12A! ;)

Post by: Nutella Sister on September 12, 2007, 02:50:44 pm

No offense, but I think none of these nudity and shirt-less movies that Daniel is doing will be something that stikes in mind! He's so trying to tell people not to know him as "Harry Potter" but he can't do that..he won't survive! I wish I could tell him these words..I wish! ::)

Title: Re:December Boys
Post by: Storyteller on September 12, 2007, 04:11:13 pm

I'm not particularly interested in nudity in movies. I think it's often a crutch, sensationalism used to shore up a bad story, but I wouldn't say Dan couldn't survive it. Lots of actors have.

As for breaking away from HP, he has to do that. There are two more movies and then HP is over. Dan will be 21 years old with his entire life and career ahead of him. He HAS to show people he can do more than HP and the sooner he does it, the better.

I'm not sure nudity is the way to do it, but it sure is a QUICK way....

BTW, just because Dan has a "loss of virginity" scene in "December Boys", it doesn't necessarily follow that there will be nudity shown. It all depends upon how the scene is shot.

Rach

I think December Boys is a good thing for Dan to do. He will definately be typecast as Harry Potter by some people, but if he starts doing a lot of different things, now and when he's finished Harry, then it won't be as bad. I mean, a lot of people already don't just think of him as Harry Potter, they think of Equus too.

Title: Re:December Boys
Post by: Cristiel on September 15, 2007, 02:50:40 am

I think that Dan has to do other things if he wants people to consider him a serious actor. It will already be very difficult for him to make people not to see him as Harry Potter. "Equus" showed him as an adult and proved that he can do all sorts of things. And I admire him for taking on such a role. It shows that he's not afraid of taking risks and I like actors who are like that.

I've been told that there's not a lot of nudity in "December Boys", the movie is rated PG-13.

OK, thanks. Though I suppose Daniel wouldn't be afraid of nudity, after Equus. You're right in saying that he's taken a couple of risks.

Well, it's the other way around really. He did "December Boys" before doing "Equus".

You're right, of course, Cristiel. I think he did it in 2005, didn't he, or was it early 2006?

There's a lovelu little interview with Daniel here:

Thanks for the link Rach :) I enjoyed reading it!! I think I liked this part.."it is not that i want to totally dismiss harry, because i am so proud of playing him and of the films." ;) :D He's still proud of being Harry Potter!!! 8)

Thanks for that link Rach! He comes across as very committed, and he seems to enjoy doing small indie films as much as Harry Potter, which bodes well for the future, I guess.

There's still no release date for Belgium :'(

Did someone here see it already?

Title: Re:December Boys
Post by: Storyteller on October 06, 2007, 06:21:50 pm

Not yet. I've been watching the theaters but we don't get many THOUGHTFUL movies here.

Sigh

I'll keep an eye out, though. This looks like a REALLY good film.

Rach

Haven't seen it Cristiel, and I don't think it'll be out here. My cinema doesn't really show small films. I'm keeping an eye out for it on DVD though.

I saw it :P BIG lie :-\ :-[ I can't see these movies here...no foreign movies here...but the movie sounds interesting ;)

The trailer was on digital cable here for quite a while and was VERY interesting! It sounds, and looks, very much like a film I'd enjoy, but I doubt it would ever come here.

Rach

It's been released here in australia for a few months now. It hasn't gotten much critical aclaim though. From the trailers i've seen Daniel seems to do a good job of the Australian accent - i've been meaning to see it but life's been hectic lately.

anyway i hope it's lack of huge success here doesn't prevent it from getting to you guys!

Title: Re:December Boys

I THINK it's scheduled to be released on dvd here. Don't take that as gospel, though. I BELIEVE I heard that it was though no date was given.

My son sent me an article a week or two ago about a new technology that is supposed to make more films available for d/l, legally and inexpensively so that even the smallest movies can reach the consumer. I'm looking forward to seeing this take off.

Rach

YAY! I THINK I already have it in my Netflix queue, but I'll double check. Thanks!

That's a really quick jump to dvd, though, isn't it?

BTW, I also have "Bobby" to watch now.

Indeed it is. The time frame seems to get shorter and shorter. Elijah's new film, Day Zero, opens January 18 and the DVD is being released February 26.

Well, I recently read the book and rented the DVD last night. It surprised me as it was completely different from the book - there really was very little the same - but I really enjoyed it. I was also pleasantly surprised by Dan Radcliffe - I never thought he was much of an actor :-X - but he was actually really good and believable in December Boys.
The ending was very sad, I cried too.

Plus I liked the soundtrack. :)
