Oh, Carina thank you! I'm so excited for this film. I just re-read this book for the forth time. It's my favorite of the series.

Also can't wait for Half-Blood Prince in July! Yay!

I guess it's about time I jumped on the bandwagon for this thread since I am a huge HP fan myself. I check the various Daniel Radcliffe websites a lot. He reminds me a bit of Elijah in that he's so famous, but yet down to earth and unaffected. Daniel has a mother like Elijah's....keeps him from getting a big head. 8)

Ahhh very cool! All of them are growing up so quickly! All of the actors. I just wish they would have kept all the actors...so many changes have already been made to the movies! And if they change the actors....I don't know, it just slightly freaks me out you know? *shrugs*

But they are all quite coming into their own, especially Hermoine...

Emma Watson---

(even if you may not like her, i still think she's sooo pretty...)

Love always jessica

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Preview!
Post by: magicdancer on May 03, 2005, 08:47:47 pm

Yeah, she's gonna be a beauty all right. Well on her way now.

I think Rupert Grint is adorable. Funny, quirky, but still so cute.

Daniel is already a heartbreaker.....and will only get better I think.

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Preview!
Post by: Joanie on May 03, 2005, 10:55:34 pm

Yeux, glad to hear your an HP fan as well!! Great. ;D I hope that all the actors continue their roles going forward. I'd hate to see another Ron, for instance. But Rupert Grint has already hinted that he won't return for movie 5 on. How unfortunate.

Emma Watson has really turned into a lovely young lady. And what can I say about Daniel? He will always be Harry and he does such a wonderful job. But I worry for him, because he is so closely identified with the character, I don't know if he'd ever be cast as anyone else! He has really grown and gotten better in the role, though.

Okay, enough ranting from me. I love GoF. I thought it was a pivotal book in the series. When Harry comes face to face with his nemesis. Awesome read :)

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Preview!
Post by: LleMellon on May 03, 2005, 11:33:16 pm

I love th books period. I'm not on the HP thread though. lmao...too much I'm already affiliated with. but yes, I love hearing everything.

I agree completely with both of you, Yeux and Joanie...It's just going to be sooo hard to see other people in the roles of the characters we've grown to love. Honestly. I don't think Dan will have that hard of time, cause honestly, look at any of the LOTR ppl....obviously, that's only three movies but a phenomenally large amount...and they're all going on and being successful! So, I think to some degree it will take some breaking from the role because they're younger and everything...but I don't think they will really have trouble...especially since we've seen them all grow so much.

Love always Jessica

I'm pretty sure that they've already begun filming OOTP (or have have begun the production process anyways)

but it would be compleatly wierd to see other people play them in the same line of Movies. :-\

Thanks, Carina, for the reminder and link. I used to check mugglenet on a regular basis, but hadn't been there for a long time. Great stuff, check it out everyone.

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Preview!
Post by: curious bout efans on May 04, 2005, 11:45:03 pm

Mugglenet also has a lot of great essays. I was a big fan of the Knight To King theory (Ron=Dumbledore) but JKR says that's not at all happening, which is a pity. It was quite clever.

I SAW THE PREVIEW! WOW AND YAY! I am really very excited for this fourth one; I hope it turns out more like how I envision the books than the third one...cause that was a bit different.

I'm glad Dan is doing OotP.

Oh well, I'm watchingt the WB this saturday anyways! how EXCITING!!!

Ok, a little off topic, but have you seen the link to Tom Felton's blog? Bless him!!! He seems suuuch a sweetie!!! I think it's lovely that he takes to time to write pretty personal stuff for his fans!!

Am trying to get as much as I can on the next one!!

They'd better not get different actors, they shouldn't make it if they don't all stay! Besides, I know everyone says that they're getting too old, but, so what!! They're going through school in the book, it'd be unrealistic if they didn't!!! Plus, how old were John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John when they were pretending to be in high school....?!!!

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Preview!
Post by: elijahs_girl on May 06, 2005, 07:16:24 pm

I will hate it if they get new actors! I have got to attached to the ones they have just now :P Especially Ronnykins ;D
I can't wait for this film...from what I've seen it is going to be amazing, so these months of waiting is killing me.

OMG I watched the teaser the other day! It was amazing! :D
I'm one of those people who jst doesn't like Emma Watson. She is pretty, but...she's just...bleh. It just seems like there's not a lot to her, and she's not particularly suited to the role (although the scriptwriters have some blame). I don't think she'll get any work after HP. But, that's just me. What do you guys think of Fleur? I don't think she's anything special. She's very average looking-she's supposed to be stunning. I'm quite dissappointed with that-Emma's prettier than her, and I don't even like Emma! :-\

I thought Fleur looked fine. I dunno...a lot of people are really able to bring something extra once on-screen, so I think I'll wait to "see her in action" (so to speak) before making any calls on that.

I WILL say that Viktor Krum looks better than I'd imagined him. Eh.

I've seen other pictures of Fleur and they were stunning! She didn't look very good in the trailer but I think that's just the camera angle.

And wow for Victor! Woot! He's not the creepy guy Rowling described but nevermind... eye candy! Yay! And did you see Cedric? If he looks as adorable as in that glimpse we saw of him in the trailer, I'm going to melt...

And not to mention Danny - he just gets cuter and cuter! Rupert's adorable too and I can't say I don't like Emma. I'm just so happy with this cast! :-* It'd break my heart to see any of the actors replaced.

I'm reading this book at the moment. And I can't wait for the film to come out.

Unfortunately my only local cinema closed down a couple of weeks ago. So I have to pay double what I normally do in order to see a newly released film.

(More expensive cinema, PLUS full train fare)

Am not impressed.

Aww sorry about that Taf, that sucks! :(

It's funny that there's so much activity in this thread today because I was just thinking about GoF today. :D Part of it probably had to do with the fact that they showed the Philosopher's Stone on TV today. ;)

Roll on November and GoF!! ;D

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Preview! NEW TRAILER
Post by: tafika on October 03, 2005, 04:18:50 pm

Thanks Carina :-*

I just hope the people who have bought the building keep it as a cinema, otherwise I'll not be able to see as many films on the big screen. :(
*Fingers crossed*

I watched The Philosopher's Stone the other day, it always makes me smile because the kids acting is just terrible! lol, these films are great to see how they have improved with time.

I hope GoF will be better than the last 3! ;D

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Preview! NEW TRAILER
Post by: Caz on October 03, 2005, 04:37:40 pm

If there's demand in your town, then it would be foolish of them not to keep it as a cinema. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that they do. :)

Haha, the acting really isn't that great ;D but even then, I think they did a pretty decent job. ;) But I agree, it's a pleasure to see how much they've improved. :D

Didn't you like the first 3 at all? ;)

I have to say out of all of them, Chamber of Secrets is my least favourite, I'm not sure why. I do love Number 3 and I'm wondering whether Number 4 will be along the lines of that one or more like the first two. Hmmmm. ;)

I liked the first too okay but I think they could have been better. I HATED the third but that's probably because that has always been my favorite book and they RUINED IT!!!! Sorry, just my opinion, it really wasn't terrible, they just left out a lot of my favorite stuff from the book and that made changes that made it not make sense. Anyways. here's to GOF being the best yet!

Saw the cinema Trailer today when I went to see 'Corpse Bride'
It just left you with a feeling of.... WOW! (This may also be due to the fact it was on a bigger screen than I usually go to though ;) )

I can't wait! ;D

i found a website where you can listen to the whole GOF soundtrack. warning--the first couple of song are really really weird.

http://music.aol.com/artist/main.adp?tab=album&albumid=802181

Quote:

i found what you are talking about now. heres the website that kind of confirms that:
http://www.veritaserum.com/movies/movie5/unconfirmed.shtml
Tom Felton/Draco Malfoy - 50% chance
Tom Felton will be 18 years old during Order of the Phoenix filming in 2006. Although he could still play the role of Draco, who would be 15 during the movie, producers may decide that he is too old for the role and recast him. Tom has also expressed interest in going into fishery later in life rather than continuing acting. Tom and/or the producers may decide for him not to be in the fifth film, but if he wants to stay and the producers want him to stay, than he stays. 50%.

:(

I'm very curious to see GOF!!!!!!! :D :) I can't wait!!!I think nobody can replace Tom Felton!!!!!!!He's perfect in the role of Draco Malfoy, isn't he? I hope these actors won't change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when I think about Harry or Ron I see Daniel and Rupert actually......The producers can't change the actors!!!!!!!I like them very much!!!!!!

There are a lot of short clips from the upcoming movie here:

Personally, I am really liking Cho. I think the actress brings more dimension to her. So I'm excited.

And the part with the wands and the dueling? SO excited for that. SO excited. ;D

Yes, those are the same names as here in america lol...

Anywho....I'm not going to see it for a while because my schedule is just insane and three research papers are taking priority right now. It sucks to the highest degree of sucks but that's the way it is sometimes...so I hear you on having to wait....it comes out tonight here (midnight screenings) but I won't see it for at least two weeks, although it looks really awesome...I hope everyone who goes to the movie enjoys it!

Also, a really cool note...Oliver and James Phelps, who play Fred and George Weasley (twins) are in Chicago over this weekend, and my best friend called up and asked if she could do an interview and they surprisingly said yes! So she's going to do that, and I get some credit for helping with research and coming up with the questions and whatnot, and she might get their autograph for me, which would just be way awesome...They may not be Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson or Rupert Grint, but they still have their fan-base following...after all, Fred and George are quite awesome in their own right.

Love always Jessica

Nice interview with Daniel Radcliffe here:

http://www.nynewsday.com/entertainment/movies/ny-etlede4514547nov17,0,6004262.story?coll=nyc-ent-topheadlines-left

He mentions child actors who did not end up like Macaulay Culkin and how he wants to be like them. Elijah is one of the actors he mentions.

I'm debating about whether or not to go see GOF this weekend. ::)

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Thread!
Post by: Joanie on November 18, 2005, 09:40:56 pm

Yeux, thanks for the interview link. I remember a while back that Daniel mentioned one of his actor idols was Elijah. He wanted to have a career path like Elijah's.

Thanks for the honest reviews here. I know that a lot of the book has been left out, but it's been getting such good reviews. I just can't wait to see it! I'm going to take my daughter on Tuesday since she's off from school and hopefully, we'll have an empty theater to enjoy it. ;D

By the way, here in NY we have a movie critic, Joel Siegel, who reviewed the movie today on our local news. He went so far as to say that (in his opinion) he wouldn't be surprised if this film was nominated for Best Picture.! :)

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Thread!
Post by: magicdancer on November 18, 2005, 11:04:29 pm

Oh I know who Joel Siegel is from my days in NYC. So he thought that highly of it? WOW! I know there is a lot left out of GOF for the film, but it was necessary to keep the running time within reason.

Look how much was left out of LOTR and yet how well the films did.

If anyone sees a review by Ebert & Roeper, would you puleeeez post it here. :-*

I absolutely loved it, I've already seen it twice!! I know that a lot of you are disappointed that it didn't have everything in the book, but at least it actually contained all of the main plot unlike the third movie(they never even explained the map or mooney, wormtail, padfoot, and prongs). You can't expect absolutely everything (like S.P.E.W. for example) to be in the movie when they're cramming a seven hundred something or other page book into a two and a half hour film. It's absolutely impossible to get it all in. I was really pleased with what they did and didn't put in. Like I said, at least a huge chunk of the main plot wasn't missing.

It's absolutely impossible to get it all in. I was really pleased with what they did and didn't put in. Like I said, at least a huge chunk of the main plot wasn't missing.
yeah. i was happy that once they got to Hogwarts, things really were good and made sense and everything. i was just disappointed in the beginning. it went so fast! and there was almost nothing on the Quidditch World Cup! oh well, i enjoyed it muchly (is that even a word?).

I have one word: AWESOME!

I absolutely loved it! This is hands down one of the best movies ever made. However, I agree that the World Cup was way too abrupt and I was a bit disappointed, but it was still one of the best films ever and I can't wait to see it again! As soon it was over I immediately wanted to see it again!

I've seen it three times!! ;D

I LOVE it!! I went to the midnight premiere, went on Saturday with a friend, and Sunday with my dad and sibling! It was so fun! I can't wait to see it again!

Well, I thought it was amazing and definitely the most emotional of all four. I can't wait for the next movie. :D

I'm going to go see it on either Wednesday or Thursday with my older brother since he's only going to be in town for two days. I can't wait to go again!!

Saw it this past Friday - loved it, loved it, loved it!! Not my favorite of the films, but book 4 wasn't my favorite of the series either. Actually, now that I think about it, I felt the same way about the movie as I did about the book: scary, action-packed, lotsa stuff going on, but not quite as moving as book 3. (Which is my second-favorite, after book 6.) I still loved it though! Those kids are just terrific actors, they get better every film. Especially Fred and George this time - wow! They really got to shine in this one; more like the Fred and George in the books, which we didn't get to see much of yet. So that's cool. I wanna see it again, now!!

Fred and George are my hero. the scene with them putting their names in the Goblet is just classic! i love those boys! they fit the part so perfectly. they all did. great casting, and even greater acting.

Wow, looks like everyone loved it. :D

It looks like I'll have to wait another 3 weeks to see it since it's not showing in my town, unless I can cram in a couple of hours to see it in the town an hour away from me. And still there's no guarantee that it is really going to show in my town. :-\

A History of Violence never even showed here, I wonder which movies we do get to see here.. ::)

But I can't wait until I can see it. ;D

I saw it on friday in the afternoon ;DIt was amazing-deffinately the best one so far. This one was my favourite book, so I'm glad they did a good job-though there were a few part that are wrong-for example, does anyone here think hermione is a bit too...barbie? she's always wearing pink, she doesn't have bushy hair, she just seem like the little geek girl she's supposed to be :-\
Dan's acting has certainly improved-he was awful in the first film! Ron, fred and george are all fantabulous :D

Hopefull I'll be seeing it again soon...I have so many people I need to see it with, but I don't have that much money lol!

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Thread!
Post by: tafika on November 23, 2005, 04:49:01 pm

Wasn't too thrilled on the 3rd one either.

I absolutely love the books! I've been reading them since they first came out, before they became as huge as they have done.

To be honest, I wasn't thrilled of the idea of them being turned into film. I thought that they were fantastic as they are. They don't need films. They are a good set of books. The films... are not that great.

Some of my friends who haven't read the books love the films. But they don't know the little bits that have been left out or changed. These are the things that annoy me. Little bits that you look forward to, and are cut out because they're not seen as crucial to the plot.

I was really looking forward to the final scenes from the book. In the hospital wing with Mrs Weasley being a Mother to Harry. That moment in the book was really significant in my opinion, you saw Harry experience a Mother-Son moment for the first time, and that had me in floods. Mrs Weasley wasn't even seen in this film.
Just one example of my disappointment.

I've read all the books, and I've never been disappointed with the movies at all. I think there are one or two nit-picky things that could be improved on, but be realistic - there's only so much you can cram onto a screen with two-and-a-half hours at your disposal. I mean, just look at the LOTR trilogy - each one of those films (counting the 'extended' versions) was upwards of three solid hours, and yet hardcore fan people still complained about Tom Bombadil. They're just different mediums - you have to accept that if you want to enjoy it. Which is, I guess, why a lot of uber-fans of the books don't enjoy the movies.

Title: Re:Goblet of Fire Thread!
Post by: elwoodsgal18 on November 23, 2005, 08:47:35 pm

I thought the Goblet of Fire (movie) was the best of the movies. Among the many things the movie makers left out, I thought they did a good job making up for it with awesome special effects and the whole Voldermort sequence.

When I went to see the movie last Friday I saw a bunch of other friends there. I went up to them afterwards to see how htey liked it (I was still moved from the ending) and they had nothing but negative comments about it. All they could say was how they'd left out so much, changed this, moved that... I agreed, but I also thought the movie was good. I guess it is all about perspective. If you go to see it expecing a replica of the book, you'll be disappointed and angry. If you go wanting to see a good movie, I think you'll be satisfied.

Thats what I think, at least.

I saw the film yesterday and was absolutely blown away by it. This is by far the best Potter film yet. I was riveted from beginning to end and I wasn't bored at all. I loved the way the film kept moving at a clip.

It was wise that only the important parts of the book were left intact. The producers made a good decision about what to keep and what to discard.

My only disappointment was that it wasn't longer!! ;D

I saw it opening night and I'm still deciding if I like it or not. I don't mind if they leave some things out (the explanation of the Maruader's Map still drives me up a wall though) but I don't like how they changed the gillyweed part when Neville gave it to him instead of Dobby.

But I really got mad in the beginning when Dumbledore ran up to Harry and almost shook him with anger and asked him if her put his name in the Goblet, Dumbledore would never speak to him like that but that's me.

I totally agree, SusieQ, And Richard Harris played Dumbledore with a dignity I haven't seen in Michael Gambon.....especially in "Goblet of Fire." I thought Dumbledore seemed rather scatterbrained in GOF.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!! :D
Can you tell I saw the movie last night?? ;D
I want to see it again straight away! ;D

Need I issue a SPOILER warning? ;D

A few people have mentioned about the part at the World Cup being too short? I agree with that, I was rather surprised actually. I expected more from that scene. When it was over, I actually said: That's it? ;D

That's one part I thought would be different.. Apart from thinking it would be longer, I thought that the House Elf would be there of course and that the wood/trees would be denser. And I thought there'd be more people around but there was no one.. *shrug*

And I agree with what has been said about Dumbledore, I felt exactly the same way during the movie, he just wouldn't talk to Harry like that.. they didn't do that very well. :(

I missed Dobby and Barty Crouch's Elf as well as the House Elf Liberation Front... ;)

But other than that, the movie is exactly like I imagined it to be!! That doesn't happen often when I watch a movie about a book I have read before (and love so much), but in this case, I think they nailed it. The scene between Harry and Voldemort was just like I pictured it in my head, as well as a few other scenes, I felt like I had seen the movie before!! :o 8)

So, I am definitely going to add this to my collection.
Now, bring on Number 5!! The stakes are getting higher all the time...

Actually, they're getting scarier all the time. There was a little girl behind me, with her family, and she had to close her eyes a few times. Even my mum gasped a couple of times. ;D

Idril, go to IMDb.com and do a search for the movie title. It will give you the names of all the cast members and the parts they had. It also gives the names of the director, writers....everything. It's a wonderful website for movie information.

When you say "Charlie and Bill" do you mean the twins who played Ron's brothers Fred and George? There was also Ron's brother, Percy, but no Charlie or Bill in Prisoner of Askaban. If you do mean the twins, yes, I have a picture.

No, I don't mean the twins, I know who they are.
I mean, you know, when they are in the pub the Leaky Cauldron, Ron give an article about him and his family who win a lot of moneys, and with that, they were gone in Epypt for seeing Bill. On the Daily Prophet, you have a pic with all the family.

For me, Bill and Charlie are the older brothers of Ron and the twins.

I understand what you're saying Amber. Richard Harris and Michael Gambon have two different personalities and that is reflected in their performances. I think it doesn't help that the last two Potter films have had different directors. I think this makes it tough from a consistency standpoint. Every director reads the character differently.

I loved the 4th one. And usually I'm not very fond of the Harry Potter movies, so I was pleasently surprised.

I wonder when it's coming out here in Norway. Actually, I was a bit disapointed. They removed so many things... But it was good. ;)

Post by: miSsliPgLoSoNastiK on February 27, 2006, 11:08:20 pm

Yeah. It was a slightly different story, but I think they did really well. I think changing it slightly and taking out a few things is better than what they've done with the other ones, which is remove some really really awesome stuff. The other movies felt rushed.

It was really kind of a love-hate thing with the fourth movie for me... they just cut out so much :'( To me the movies really pale in comparison to the books. Not like that stopped me from going to see GOF three times in the movies... :P Really what I miss most is the character depth. There's so much more emotion and character insight in the books. *sigh* I was actually a bit disappointed. But I still enjoyed it... DR definitly made it more interesting ;D ;)

I don't have an opinion yet, because I am awaiting the DVD.

But from detailed descriptions I've read, I'm not going to be disappointed in what they cut out. That was the point when Rowling stopped using an editor, so there's a lot of extraneous matter that should have been whittled out. So it sounds like this is a leaner, stronger machine.

I loved, loved, loved the fourth movie. Can't wait to receive my copy of the DVD.

To be honest, if they kept everything that was in the book, the movie would have been 7 hours long. :o

Of course, I wish they would have left a few things in, but the books essence was kept intact and that's all you could really ask for.

I also have to say that I think Radcliffe's hair suits him better in this movie.

When I saw it at the cinema, I remember being amazed a lot of the time, I had been waiting quite long to see this, and while I wish the they had shown the Quidditch match a little longer, I really liked it. :D

I once said to Yeux that while I watched the film, I had a sort of deja vu experience the entire time, as if I had seen the movie before, but of course I hadn't.. :-[

Maybe it had to do with the fact that it was so well done.. ;D

Has anyone here played the GOF video game? They had it on sale when I bought my dvd and I've run into a problem.

Is this a good place to post this? Is there a better one?

Thank you!

Rach

I have the GOF game, but I haven't played it yet :-X I've been really busy lately and have yet to open it ::) I have played all the other three though, and they were very good - they are a bit amateur though - you don't need a lot of gaming experience to get through them.

WHich is why I like the game. I have no gaming experience to speak of. I need a SIMPLE game. I am doing better than I was when I posted that message, but there are still things I need to learn.

Thanks for responding!

Hugs,
Rach

We may have to wait until June, 2007 for the next HP movie, but we'll get to see Daniel again later this year when "The December Boys" is released. Yay!

Its really unfair how the US get GOF before us. Its an English film! So I really do not understand why Warner Bros did this. ::)

Title: Re:HP and the GOF
Post by: Storyteller on March 15, 2006, 07:44:17 pm

It is a British film, but is the FUNDING American? I ask this because it confused me at first that LOTR wasn't listed in the Oscars under foreign films. (It was a New Zealand film.) I was told that the FUNDING was American (New Line) so it was counted as an American film.

Warner Brothers is an American stuido, like New Line. Isn't it? I could be wrong.

Rach

Post by: Valerie on March 16, 2006, 08:14:23 am

I am not too sure myself. But yeah Warner Bros is an American Studio, but it is filmed in the UK. But either way it is classified as british and therefore it should be released in Britain first.

I don't know I am just very bitter about this. lol. :-X

Title: Re:HP and the GOF
Post by: Storyteller on March 16, 2006, 08:35:04 am

LOTR was filmed on New Zealand but was still classified as an American film. Personally, I agree with you, but that seems to be how they do it.

It's the studio that determines the country of the film, not where it's made.

Have you not had Goblet of Fire over there yet??????

Rach
