Title: Harry Potter!!
Post by: frodosgurl on February 07, 2005, 10:42:15 pm

I didn't see any other just "harry potter" thread for the movies, and if there is, srry i didnt see one! I have a question. I've heard rumors that they're going to get a new cast to play Harry Potter, Ron, Herminone, and like Draco because they're getting too old. Is that true? and is that going to be for the 4th movie? that would be soo sad, I want them to have the same people...or it'd just be weird!!! ???

;) hey dude! i heard that they are doing one more movie with the same people (probably the most recent one that will come out soon) but then I think they are getting new people because they say they are growing up too fast.

Daniel, Emma and Rupert are already filming both the 4th and 5th movie, so any changes won't take effect until the 6th film. Because they are growing up so fast the film makers made the decision to film The Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix almost back to back so the age problem is a little less of a worry.

Whether the current actors will continue on for films 6 and 7 is completely unknown. J.K. Rowling has made it clear she would like Daniel, Emma and Rupert to stay on for the remaining films, but the actors are on a film to film contract, so the decision is down to them, they may not want to carry on with the films. Like I said though, no one knows for sure. Plus book 6 hasn't even hit the shelves yet, so we'll have to wait and see.

I've only seen the first and second movies.

I really liked the books after those, and I'm kind of scared that the movies would ruin how I imagine them.

I guess the third one's good, though?

But the really stupid thing is, the characters are growing up too, so it doesn't matter if they're getting older. I don't get that!! Besides, Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta were about 30 when they were in Grease pretending to be 16!!! I think it would be completly stupid to change them!

Does anyone know how they're doing the Goblet of Fire, it's my fave book, but it's so long, I think it would be best to make it 2 movies, like Kill Bill, but from the soudns of it they're not. Shame, they're gonna have to miss out a lot of important stuff.

Every instance is different, you can't compare a musical to a kids story. They are supposed to be young teenagers and I think we can agree, they look like young adults. I mean voices are breaking, bodies are developing etc. I am not saying it isn't possible for them to complete the movies, I would love it if they did, but I understand the complications involved. In the seventh book, the trio should be aged about 17. They are all aged sixteen now, which is what they should be in book six, and book six isn't even published yet and film 5 won't be out until 2006. Plus you have to take into account what they might want to do with their lives. They may want to continue their education, go on to University or travel.

Just because other films have pulled off the feat, doesn't necessarily mean the HP films will, or that the actors will want to.

And in Grease they weren't pretending to be 16, they were acting 18 which is the age of graduation in the States.

As for Goblet of Fire, they are filming it as one film, but I believe they are doing it justice from all reports I have heard. The screenwriters and Director have to run things by J.K. Rowling before they make any huge changes anyway, so the final cut is with her full approval of any changes.

Well, why don't you try checking out Tom's website if you want info about his involvement, that would seem the natural, logical step to take.

The 4th movie is just one movie, but it's going to be, like, four hours long (with an intermission). So that will be good. The third one sucked next to the first two because of the lack of time. But Daniel in the black hoodie compleatly made up for that.

Quote from Tom Felton taken from www.mugglenet.com:

I have finished the main part of the filming of 'The Order of the Phoenix'. [He probably meant 'Goblet of Fire'.] Which has taken six months so far and there will be more months of work involved with all the other parts of filming involved in making such a huge film! I'm sure you will love it when it is released later this year. School studies have finished for the moment as I have taken my GCSEs last summer and I'm not going to college at the moment. I might go to fishing college this September but my plans are not quite clear at the moment.

Urgh . . . I heard about all that, too. I love the regular Harry Potter actors, and I hope none of the rumors are true :(. It's crazy that they think the Harry Potter actors are growing up too fast. I mean, at the pace they are making the movies now, that's insane. It took a few years to make the second and third movie, but actually, I was reading in an entertainment magazine and the fourth Harry Potter movie is coming out in November. LOL . . . I was surprised since the book is coming out July 16th because there really isn't a lot of space between the book and the movie, and usually they space out when Harry Potter stuff is coming out more.

I understand what you're saying about the time between the film release of GoF and the book release of HBP, but it will have been 2 years between books 5 and 6, and only a year between the 3rd and fourth films, and with the rate at which the actors are maturing, they have to keep a tight schedule on the films.

I really think people need to be realisitic about the problem at hand. I know no one wants the format of the films to change, frankly I find it a little annoying in the constant change of Directors, because let's face it, PoA was a whole different style of filming to PS and CoS, but I understand their reasonings for changing directors, it's a draining and exhausting job.

In PoA Emma, Dan and Rupert were all 15 years old, and in the books their characters were supposed to be 13. That is already a two year gap, but they can get away with it convincingly because they haven't reached adulthood yet. But lets be real here, it has taken Jo Rowling over 2 years to complete book 6, it may take her another two years to complete the 7th book. Film 5 doesn't have a sceduled release date until 2007 I believe, and if book 7 is completed in that same year, then filming will start on the 7th and final movie, but if film 5 is released in 2007, it will be 2008 before film 6 is released, and I expect as logic stands, 2009 before film 7. You can only demand so much of a person, and that to me sounds like one hell of an unsocial schedule, and they are growing up, they may want to experience something new, away from a film set.

I don't want them to change any of the actors, I am still heartbroken over the loss of Richard Harris as Dumbledore but I understand that couldn't be helped, but I also understand that these three young actors, 4 if you include Tom, have other things they want to experience in their lives, before their teenage years have passed them by.

I totally agree with all you said, Tonks. Great analysis of the problem of timing the books with the movies when the actors don't stop growing.

I understand what you mean about their teenage years passing them by Tonks...still, I wouldn't say no if I could play one of the roles :)

All about GOF (http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/entertainment/film/potter_gobgossipfeb1.htm?linkfrom=Today&link=main1_link1&article=TODents_shall_we_dance)

I can't wait to see the film! ;)

I love the Harry Potter Books (ever since I read them a few years ago in german - now I have had the english version box set since November) and Movies! :D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rupert wants to carry on :D:
The film after the Goblet of Fire is Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix. They’ve given the directing job to little-known director David Yates. But there has been no announcement from the cast members about whether they will all sign up. However, Rupert Grint who plays Ron Weasley, said: "There's no reason, really, why we couldn't go on. I don't know about the others, but I want to go on."
