The directorial debut of Elijah for his "Simian Records" signed Apples in Stereo--"Energy" video!!
I love the way this is shot. I hope he continues to expand his "directing" horizons!! ;)

Sorry to be just repeating the same thing but the link doesn't work for me either. :(
I'll have to look on Youtube and see if someone has uploaded it when I get time unless someone posts another link before that. |

It was pretty good for a directorial debut, I suppose. I really liked the vintage 70s vibe there. Plus the backwards exit at the end was cool. I also like the nifty grey border around. My only criticisms are on some of the distracting quick cuts where it doesn't flow with the rhythm, and sometimes the close-up views of things were hard to see. But still a good try. :)
I'd like to see him do more of this stuff in the future, looks like he has potential. ;D |

its good first effort in the directing department. the apples in stereo are awsome. nice melow beatles sound to it. i think the lead singer sounds a lot like john lennon.
Is this the apples first single from the new album? |

I totally agree with you, BC89, when I first started listening to the music I thought, man they sound a bit like the Beatles, which didn't bother me as they are one of my favorite bands. :) This was a valiant effort put forth by Elijah and I really got my 70's groove on while watching it. :D

| I really liked the song and the clip, so i'm now considering getting Apples in Stereo's new album ;) I was talking to someone who's got the album, and he says that the songs are very 'Patrick' - Elijah's character from Eternal Sunshine! ;D |

Yep, it's from their new record (the lp is out currently and the CD is released on Feb. 2nd) they released a holiday song in November, but thats not on their album.
I liked it's vintage feel. It kind of reminded me of some 8mm my uncle took in the 70's, so It had personal resonance for me, I guess, as well.

In the Apples "Thank's to" list the mention Polyphonic Spree (who had the 'main song' to ESOTSM), and I can definetly hear their infuence. so it does kind of sound 'patrick-ie.' :) |

| Well I am honest, the music of the Apples is not my style of music, as I am European I am more into Robbie Williams music style. It's only my opinion :D |

Interesting sound. I think I would like the song a little better...if it had a few more lyrics in it. I like songs that tell a more detailed story....
but not bad for a directoral debut. You definitely could dance to it. ;D |

I received my Entertainment Weekly magazine yesterday dated 2-16-07 (it has the pics of three of the Lost actors) on pp 76 in the Music section, they mention the Apples very favorably and it is the EW Pick out of 8 other CD's and they give it an A-. Sorry I don't know how to do links.
Some excerpts from the short paragraph “We have a hobbit to thank for this, their first album in five years and their best in twice that.” "New Magnetic Wonder is the debut release from the bright-eyed actor Elijah Wood’s Simian Records.” Then at the end “All hail the return of the king.”
I wonder how Elijah would feel about all the LOTR references? |

i have to get that issue. ;)
i don't think elijah would mind the LOTR references here. this is a great review. i've seen nothing but great reviews for the CD. i'm sure all involved are more than pleased.
and i get to see the apples perform tomorrow! :D |

O boy, can't wait to get my copy. Now, I know it is coming. ;D Unfortunately, it takes a little bit to reach me....one of the disadvantages to living in a small town. ;)
Very exciting news on the Apples! I am sure he probably would be humored about the LOTR references....especiallys since they are "clients" of his now. :) |
