Title: Holocaust Diaries
Post by: Caz on May 02, 2005, 03:42:03 pm

Do you remember that there was a mention in March about the Holocaust Diaries which Elijah will be reading from in a program on MTV?

This is a bit of an article that was posted:

Next month, a documentary Zapruder helped produce will be shown on MTV. Titled “We’re Still Here,” it will have young actors like Kate Hudson, Elijah Wood, Brittney Murphy and Zach Braff doing voiceovers of the diaries.

I'm not sure if we Europeans will be able to see the Program as well but it might air on MTV in the next couple of days so it may be worth keeping an eye out for it. :)

I read this over in LJ Land. It says that the program will be shown on May 4th at 8pm.

Yeah, and it plays the same time as Lost. :-\ So sad. Though, MTV is known for doing re-runs they wont be showing a re-run on "We're Still Here" for quite some time. I'll have to record "I'm Still Here" on Tivo and watch Lost on another TV. Anything for Elijah and Dom. :D Haha.

I hope it works out for everyone else. ;)

Elijah and Britney Murphey seem to have done quite a bit of work together in the past years.

This, King of the Hill, Sin City and now Happy Feet.

They'd make a cute couple. ::) ;) But, I'm not suggesting anything. :D

You're right Shanny!! I'll have do to the same, record one program and watch one. Watching a program about the Holocaust is important because the world especially the new generation should know how these poor people had suffered during WWII. I read The Diary of Anne Frank and its really heartbreaking that poor girl had no life hiding from the nazis.
Maybe, I watch this program and record Lost. Let's see!!

I agree with you MyFrodo, it is important to be educated about things like this. It's horrible about the racism that went on during the Holocaust and the things that still go on in the present. :-\

And the thing that some people fail to realise is that this could have happened anywhere in the world (I have experienced this sort of ignorance in real life, sadly).

I know Gina. I cried watching another Holocaust documentaries, it is hard but is important to know more about the Holocaust. I hope a thing like this never happened again.

A question: Are you from Cali(Colombia)? Just curious because of your nickname.

Title: Re:Elijah reads from Holocaust Diaries QUESTION
Post by: Caz on May 04, 2005, 01:30:36 pm

I was thinking that perhaps we (in the UK) would get to see this documentary as well but I checked the TV Guide as well as the MTV Schedule for the next 7 days and there is nothing. Does anyone know whether we will be able to see this over here? I would be gutted if we couldn't see this. :-\

HERE (http://www.mtv.com/thinkmtv/features/discrimination/im_still_here/) is some more info about the program and a clip. :)

No problem Shanny. ;) Has the program been shown over there yet? It's at 8pm isn't it but I think local listing may be different for some people. I think it won't be shown here in Europe for quite some time. :(

Well, MTV is national so the showtimes are all the same but in the United States alone there is four different time zones so it will depend on where you live on what time it will be shown but basically it will be shown at all the same time just with different times on the clock. I hope I'm not too confusing. ::) I'm sure you don't understand a word I'm saying... So I'll see it tonight! I'm so excited. :D

Sorry you won't see it for awhile Cazzie. I'm sure you'll get updates from people on what happened. I'll let you know as well. ;)

That's exactly what I meant, I just didn't explain myself very well. ::) ;D I knew about the different time zones and I do understand it but it always amazes me nonetheless. :P ;)

will Elijah actually be appearing on it, or just talking? i guess i better find a tape to record it. can't miss Lost.

Post by: magicdancer on May 04, 2005, 11:22:13 pm

I watched "Lost" and don't have the capability of recording a program other than the one I'm watching.

If anyone hears of this MTV show being repeated, please post it here. MTV does do repeats fairly often, so I'm hoping I'll have a second chance.

Title: Re:Holocaust Diaries
Post by: deenan on May 04, 2005, 11:59:42 pm

i have not seen anything about a repeat yet. i checked for the next week and no news.

the program was extremely touching. the actors read from actual diaries of holocaust victims. some still alive, most not. the actors were not seen, only heard. zach braff was the only one on camera. there were disturbing images of the holocaust, with some pictures of the victims themselves.

elijah read from two different diaries. neither one of the young men survived. it was powerful and it made you really hear what these young people went through during that awful time.

well done program.

Oh wow, I really didn't want to miss that show, but MTV usually plays program several times. Rarely would they play a show like that once. Thanks for their listing link.

:)

Post by: nuke33 on May 05, 2005, 01:09:41 pm

This was a beautiful and heartbreaking show.
I have seen many other programs about the Holocaust, but this one was so personal, it just got to me. :'(

Elijah read the first two diaries and it was so heartfelt and so touching. You feel like you get to know each person through the reading and then at the end you learn their fate.........
it was just so heart-wrenching and sad.

Still sad today thinking about it.

Title: Re:Holocaust Diaries
Post by: Caz on May 05, 2005, 05:01:04 pm

Oh my, it sounds very touching. In german schools a lot is taught about the Holocaust and pupils visit the former concentration camps to see what it was like. Being at the concentration camp was very hard, you could still feel what had happened there. It was very shocking. I think I would probably cry seeing this program. I hope we can see it over here soon.

It was so touching! :'( Sorry I'm so late on responding about it but as was said by Deenan, Elijah read for two diaries. He was never seen but I think that not showing the celebrities made it better.

He read for two people and one is actually still alive. I checked because I recorded it. He lives in Israel today. The other one unfortunately lost their life in the Holocaust. :'( I'm glad that Elijah as well as others did this because it was an amazing program.

Post by: myFrodo on May 05, 2005, 05:41:30 pm

For me the program was very touching, heartbreaking. I wish that Holocaust horrors will never repeated again!!. Lij read two diaries, one of the boys survived the Holocaust and lives now in Israel, the other, sadly died. Those people are treated like garbage, the nazis don't care if children were separated from their parents and sibilings. The images are so disturbing most of those innocent people were practically skin and bones. Ay Dios Mio!!(Oh, my God!!)
Kids should be educated about this tragedy. Most of 53% of high school students don't know exactly when the Holocaust happened. Some of them believed that it happened in the 19th century!!

Title: Re:Holocaust Diaries
Post by: myFrodo on May 05, 2005, 05:50:08 pm

I think that Lij and the others had cried while they're reading those diaries. :'(

I missed it.. but TODAY genecide is still going on .. In Africa and still this country's government has a blind eye to it because it has nothing to do with OIL..
Yet these poor people are being slaughtered or even worse, they are being maimed and I won't go into specifics because it is too graphic on this site, but it is happening right now.. and we still don't learn from our mistakes.
