Title: Poll: Most tear-jerking moment?
Post by: Joanna on August 26, 2006, 01:01:25 am

Just wondering which moment during LotR you all found yourselves crying ::)

I actually never cried during the movies. But I don't get emotional very easily- the only movie that has really made me cry is Titanic. Anyway... if I had to choose, I would say that the Grey Havens are the most tear-jerking.

I voted Gray Havens but i think i was crying during all these moments in the poll & not only.

When Sam is holding Frodo on Mount Doom, this was the moment when I cried so much, but to be honest I cried almost in every scene at the end of part tree. :'(

I voted for the Grea Havens.
That was one of the reasons I couldn't watch ROTK at the cinema. I knew the ending and I was not strong enough to watch it at the cinema. :-[ :-[ :-[

the Grey Havens. :-[

when Frodo says good-bye to Sam. and they will never ever see each other again, ever! and Sam has to go back to his little hobbit life in that little hobbit hole trying to discipline all those kids and taking care of that wife for the rest of his long long life. and every day, he thinks about Frodo and wishes Frodo would still be there. and this goes on and on and on. then his kids leave home because they are marrying hobbits from the neighboring hobbit town. and Rosie ends up having an affair with Mr. Proudfood and runs off with him, leaving poor (and old at this point) Sam all to himself with nothing to do but think about Frodo. Sam eventually comes to a tragic end because he goes back to the Grey Haven one evening and longingly stares out at the horizon wishing Frodo would come back to him. sadly, he trips over his walking cane and falls into the water and drowns. his body ends up washing onto a riverbank of the Anduin. just tragic! :'( ;) ;D

My FIRST time I cried and was so emotional was when Aragorn told Frodo they had to move on from Moria after Gandalfs fall and he looked right into you the viewer with such horror and loss.......
But to me ..... Frodo leaving for the Grey Havens brought back so many memories. .....
Did you know that Peter Jackson lost both his parents while directing LOTR and they never got to see his final production of ROTK?
And I feel so strongly that it is very heavenly his portrayal of the Grey Havens and this is a bit of a tribute to his parents leaving.
Because ...... when both my parents died ... the sea took them too .

Me too. This is the most sad part of the Trilogy and the most sad movie that I ever seen.

I can't vote because all the moments made me cry. Especially when Gandalf falls in Moria, Grey Havens, death of Boromir.

I cried a looooot on LOTR. I guess the music in these sad scenes makes ihem so emotional. I cry everytime when I see the scene with Gandalf in Moria, and when he returns and meet Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli in Fangorn. Everytime when I see the eagles rescuing Frodo and Sam from the Mount Doom in LOTR (my God, such a beautiful scene...). Everytime when I see Arwen in ROTK, when she has a vision of her son and returns to Rivendell. And when Pippin sings for Denethor while warriors of Gondor die... there's so many moments like that... :'(

I cried at the lighting of the beacons, got choked up when Sam gives Frodo his hand to lift him up to begin the final leg of their journey but I became openly tearful when they begin their climb up Mt. Doom and couldn't stop until the movie was over.

I saw the movie in theaters three times and did the same thing each time. My friends were sick of me!

Title: Re:Poll: Most tear-jerking moment?
Post by: Colleen on August 27, 2006, 05:57:51 pm

i dont cry during movies....ever, so crying during LotR is a big deal for me.

my eyes were dangerously misty when Gandalf died because of the look Frodo has when that tear runs down is cheek. aww!

i cried when Aragorn says "you bow to no one" because of the combination of all the hobbits faces (especially Frodo's look of appreciative wonder) and the moving music

i completely bawled during the Grey Havens scene...i'm sure you can figure out why there.

and for a completely random moment, i felt that heart-wrenching feeling in my chest when Pippin sang. all the silent images of the war outside KILLS me. ahh, such great movie making!

so i voted the last option.

I cried alot during rotk...I cried when frodo told sam to go home, when he was stabbed by shelob, the grey havens...ugh that movie killed me. lol but I voted for the grey havens because it made me cry the most...seeing all my boys crying made me cry aswell

you know most of this film was sad, but like i said, i cried a lot during the last third of the film.

but one scene i cried at that wasn't sad was when the remainder of the fellowship was together again after frodo wakes up. seeing each other after being apart for so long and what they all had been through. that was so touching and i was weeping happy tears. :)

me too. the weird thing is it was hard for me to stop crying even after the film, so it looked pretty 'strange' for the other people in cinema :P call me crazy, but even the final credit made me so sad... :-[ maybe because I knew that was the last part and I was too emotional about that :-\

All of those moments made a tear, but I voted Grey Havens, because it was the moment they (and we) had to say goodbye to Frodo.

It also was the moment where we had to say goodbye to the movie trilogy, and for few days it was hard for me to accept.

Oh I've just thought of two more occasions that always make me want to cry, when Pippin sings his beautiful song, Billy Boyd's voice is so beautiful and the lyrics are so wistful.....

Also when Gandalf and Pippin talk about death and Gandalf says death is just the beginning of the journey (I cannot remember the exact quotation and I am not doing it justice) but that is such a beautiful moment, it makes me sniffle.

I didn't cry when watching the movie, but I think the saddest moment is, when Sam holds Frodo in the third movie (at Mount Doom) :'(
And there's the moment in the first movie, when Gandalf falls in Moria, that was a moment where I nearly cried :'(

I've got another one, though it was not a tearful moment it is a really visceral moment and it is only in the extended version.

When Eomer sees Eowyn on the battle feild presumably dead, the way he screams... drops everything and runs to her side is just gut wrenching, everytime I see it I feel it to the core it is such a true moment,

I feel qualified to say so because in my experience in the ER it all too often is like that, just an awful reaction to the immediacy of the painful reality set before the persons involved. It hurts to watch it, it is real and personal, that scene makes me fee the same way.

Title: Re:Poll: Most tear-jerking moment?
Post by: cuteswede on December 11, 2006, 11:32:04 am

Oh my gosh I agree so much about the extended scene when Eomer finds Eowyn on the battlefiled. The FIRST time I watched that I wasn't expecting it at alllll for some reason... and as I saw it, I literally BURST into tears. It was the hardest I had ever cried at a movie. It's soooo moving. I just really felt it with my whole heart. I'm veryyyyyyy emotional watching movies too....

That is one scene that it was a tragedy that it did not makeit into the theatrical version....i see the continuity issue though. if you show Eowyn on the battle field then you have to followit up with her healing, other wise she just suddenly appears alive again a tthe coronation.

Post by: bacon on December 13, 2006, 10:09:27 pm

i don't cry at movies unless they're really really sad (like Veronica Guerin), but there's a scene in RotK that gets me every time. it's when Eowyn sees the Witch King's fell beast grab Theodan and Snowmane and toss them like a rag doll. then in the next scene when she's like "i'm going to save you" and he replies "you already have" for some reason i always think of my dad and what i would do if he died....and it makes me weep a little tear.

Title: Re:Poll: Most tear-jerking moment?
Post by: scroll on December 19, 2006, 09:42:00 pm

When I cried:

Gandalf falls in the shadow.
Boromir dies.
Faramir's dad dies and finally realizes he loves him.
In the EE of ROTK when Aowyn was found laying hurt in the battle field by her brother.
Pippin finds Merry in the battle field hurt.
Merry has to leave Pippin to go with Gandalf.
Frodo :-* telling Sam to go home. in ROTK.
Sam finding Frodo :-* after Shelob injects Frodo :-*.
Sam holding Frodo :-* outside of Mount Doom.
Frodo :-* hanging on the edge of the cliff after falling over with Gollum and Sam saying, "don't you let go. Don't you let go".
When the eagles find Sam and Frodo :-* and carries them away.
Frodo :-* saying goodbye to the others at the end of ROTK.

I guess there are to many to count and will post more when I can think of them.

I did "other". I don't know what u call it, but when Frodo sails ove the water, when he's hugging Sam. The line about being torn into, OMG, that makes me cry everytime cuz I feel like Frodo is talking to me, and he smiles, it makes me cry that much more...too powerful for words. I made a tape of all the lines in the movies that he says, on a Frodo site, since I been sick it's the only way I can sleep, sitting up w/ it in the player.

I think the most tear jerking moment is when Frodo says goodbye to Sam at the end of the RotK. It always make me cry :'(
But I also start to cry when Frodo nearly died in FotR, when Gandalf falls in FotR, when Frodo leaves Sam in RotK, always when Frodo cries... There are so many moments that I can't write them all down.

I also have to cry when Pip leaves Merry & must go to Denethor or when Arwen shed some tears in the first movie because of Frodo.

I think I nearly cry the whole time when I watch LOTR...

I think the absolute saddest moment is that short scene during The End of All Things; that exact moment after Frodo and Sam destroy the ring and the fellowship is rejoicing at The Black Gate when the volcano explodes. You can see the hope drain from everyone's face (such good actors) at the exact moment they realize that there is almost no chance of Frodo and Sam actually survivng the eruption. Amazingly devestating moment.

Grey Havens was a close second for me though.

the first three times I saw rotk I cried at like 3 dif parts
the whole "you bow to no one" gave me shivers and I cried alot.
I cried when merry and pippin got seperated
I cried when frodo told sam to go home
I cried at gray havens

one part that was suposed to be happy crying, I laughed my ass of. When frodo wakes up in the bed, and sees gandalf, and says "gandalllffff" in the most hilarious voice ever. Me and my friends LAUGHED so hard every time. Sometimes people got mad...and I donn't blame them haha.

The one that actually made me cry and bursting into tears! was the LOTR: The Return of the King. When everything was done and it was finished everyone's journey.

After that Frodo, Bilbo goes to Rivendell and stuff .. I think??
Then Frodo hugs/kisses Sam on the head also to Pippin and Merry. and says good bye.

then Frodo/elijah talks about what happened when the adventure was done also when he was leaving and stuff.

Gets me every time. Don't know why. :'(

For me it was Gandalf's fall into shadow - until I realised that he was coming back. Now that I'm familiar with the story, I don't cry in that bit!

However, the bit that REALLY gets the tears flowing each time I see ROTK is when the eagles swoop down and scoop up Sam and Frodo - For me, it is actually the piece of music that is played during this scene... so hauntingly beautiful!!! :o :'(

I don't think there hasn't been a point in any of the films when i haven't cried. I spend most of the last hour of RoTK sobbing though, I have to say, haha.

I really have never been so emotionally connected to a movie/movies. I hope that doesn't sound sad or anything, but you know what I mean. :P
