Title: Simian Records/London Times Interview
Post by: Blue Star on August 14, 2005, 12:42:16 pm

Some people on IMDB are saying that this is his record label and that this is the website.

http://www.simianrecords.com/index.php (http://www.simianrecords.com/index.php)

What do you think about it?

Title: Re:Simian Records?
Post by: SolskjaersGirl on August 14, 2005, 12:47:14 pm

I'd say don't believe it till Elijah himself, has released any information
or plans about his record company. Till then anything else could be treated as speculation.

Yes, I'm with Solskie on this one. Every article talks about him launching the label at the end of the year and Simian has already signed a band. But it's too early to tell, let's wait and see. :)

I agree with Solskie. I went to website and looked at everything they have to look at.

First of all, the website was started originally in the spring of 2004, long before Elijah's recent announcement, but says the label was established in the summer of 2005.

Second, I noticed this item:

Simian Records est. Summer 2005. We at Simian Records are very excited to announce our Label to the greater music community. When we will launch is yet to be determined, but we're coming. Keep checking this site for further information about our label and our mission. See you soon bitches! Last Updated ( Tuesday, 10 May 2005 )

I don't think Elijah would ever condone a statement like this on any website he was involved with!

The only thing that seems even remotely credible to me is the name "Simian." A monkey is a simian and we know one of Elijah's nicknames was (or may still be) "monkey." But I don't think that comes close to being any kind of proof.

I say: Don't believe anything you see unless it comes directly from the mouth of Elijah or one of his authorized publicists.

i say wait and see. i like the reference to the monkey which makes total sense, but the "bitches" comment is so not him.

Here we go:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,2774-1729391,00.html

Much about his record label plans and also that mysterious "Simian records" is mentioned???:

Most importantly, he is going to start his own record label, to be called Simian Records

Perhaps here are the reason for those rumours?? ::)

I've been to the Simian Records website. Looks like it's still under construction.

Lij didn't tell the media about the name of his record label and that statement is a rumour. It's so unpolite. Lij should not use that kind of expressions. ::)

This is the London Sunday Times article already posted in this section, isn't it? Looks identical to me.

The other bit is from the Simian Records website....also posted in this thread (Simian Records)

......or else I'm seeing double and it's time to go to bed. :-\

Title: Re:Simian Records/London Times Interview
Post by: horsewomanmmr on August 15, 2005, 03:21:24 am

Here is a brief blurb from the interview.

Every other Tuesday night, Wood and a friend deejay from their iPods at a club in Hollywood called the Bar.

I never go with a set in mind, he says. Its completely improvisational and fun. Theres nothing like playing music for people. Wood may even take a break from Hollywood to pursue his interest in music. He hopes to get a radio show on the satellite radio network Sirius. Most importantly, he is going to start his own record label, to be called Simian Records. Being such a huge fan, Ive never really wanted to be in a band, and Im not really good enough to be in a band I play guitar, but barely and I dont really write music, so Id rather release music that I believe in, and try to get things out there that I think are interesting and worth hearing, for no financial gain, purely because I love it and am passionate about it.

You can read the whole interview on the TORN site.

I don`t think Elijah would say that either! But the name Simian Records, i think is true. The name shows up in all the articles so it has to be true.

The Bar -- what a scintillating name for a club. ;)

Seriously, "Simian Records" seems plausible enough. Coincidentally, one band he likes is called Simian.

Title: Re:Simian Records/London Times Interview
Post by: Blue Star on August 18, 2005, 03:57:26 pm

Ah. They must both go by the same name then. :)

But I'd love it if Elijah went with Sparkplug Records!!! (some rumour about the name) since Simian is such a common name to name something with.

Also on a verbal level, "Sparkplug" implies vitality.

[color=Blue]I was right. He is doing it with a friend. Probably Jason.

Also, I was browsing MySpace the other day... it seems "see you soon b*tches" or "how are you b*tches* is just another expression for bands and musicians... apparently no biggie in their own circles. (Note: I am not condoning the use of the word. I'm just trying to explain where the webmaster or whoever might be coming from.)

Remember what Lij said about c*nt?

I don't really get it either. :-\ Why use it online where it can be read by people outside your own circle of friends? Is it a specific reference to Elwood's female fans?

Title: Re:Simian Records/London Times Interview
Post by: Zip on August 28, 2005, 04:42:33 am

I actually kind of get it. I have been in the music buisness for a long time (I play the bass, and have been involved in several bands and projects), and the whole music scene is very dominated by men. I have learned to understand the humour and way of speaking, but it's often very "manly", if you know what I mean. It's not intentionally disrespectful, it's only their way of speaking and joking, as has already been pointed out. I remember that I in the beginning was very annoyed with it, but now I'm being called "one of the guys". I even find myself making those (stupid) male jokes at times... ::) I spend waaaaay to much time with men....! :P ;D

*note to self: find some girlfriends.....*

Thanks for the link! The article lets you post comments, and here's what I posted:

I am pleased to read about Elijah's initiative and enthusiasm in his creative pursuits. Since I admire him most for his acting career, I find it especially exciting and impressive that he is attempting to produce his own movie. I hope he is able to materialize his vision!

About the "bitches" comment, I never once thought the term was referring to females. I've heard guys call each other bitch as a humorous, irreverent way to greet each othe. Anytime I've heard Elijah make a reference to his fans, he always spoke of them with gratitude, so I really don't think the comment was aimed toward the fangirls. As someone mentioned earlier, some web designer friend of Elijah's is probably the one who wrote that comment anyway.

Aha!!! Real confirmation now!

I listened to the Howard Stern interview and at the very end Elijah said himself, "Go to simianrecords.com" because that's his site. So I type in the exact words, and what do you know, It's this site!! It's true! About the comment, I'm not really that freaked out about it. Maybe a friend said it, not really concerned either way. He also said on Howard Stern he couldn't wait until they allowed swearing on his show because he felt like he was holding himself back....so I'm not really throwing out the idea of him condoning it anymore. *shrugs*

Not saying it's good, but...hmm, whatever. I'm waiting for his record label to pick up some heat. Heck, I'm too busy focusing on all his movie business now, things are just coming as they're coming! You know?
:)

Probably much more polished. He might want to have more bands/singers signed on first, so there would be a noteworthy "Artists" section.
