Carina - I'm a huge Zadie Smith fan and I agree with you, The Autograph Man isn't her best book by a long shot, in my opinion. But do try White Teeth or On Beauty, they're both brilliant. :)

I just finished the Namesake. It's an amazing book, and really changes ones perspective on America, and perhaps England's, immigration status. I really feel sorry for those who move to different countries for a better life and end up getting discriminated against. It also puts family into perspective as well. It's a great read.

Currently reading 'lean mean fourteen' by Janet Evanovich, she is an American crime writer and I've read a lot of her books. I've mostly been reading crime and science fiction lately, but have joined a book club to widen my reading.

Hehe, it's just the way it's wrote, I actually found lotr easier to read :)

Title: Re:The book you are currently reading
Post by: jubeth on November 13, 2009, 02:34:59 pm

lotr was not as difficult to read as I expected, I think because I'd heard a lot of people say how hard it was I'd built it up in my head that I'd find it really difficult, but I didn't. I read the books after I saw the films though, so perhaps that made a difference.

I'm currently reading (among many others ::) ) The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. And I absolutely love it! It's told by Death, and is a story about a young girl, who also is a book thief, who lives during WW2.

It's a really fascinating story, with many interesting characters and a really special way of being told! It's one of those books you want and don't want to finish at the same time. You want to know how it ends and don't want it to be over yet.

I'll post about it in the other post when I'm done with it!

Title: Re:The book you are currently reading

Marit - I love 'The Book Thief', I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I got a couple of new books for Christmas and I've started on 'We're All Made Of Glue' by Marina Lewycka (who wrote 'A Short History of Tractors In Ukrainian' and 'Two Caravans', 2 of my favourite books ever). It's great so far. :)

Allie - 'Everything Is Illuminated' is just beautiful - it's one of those books I re-read over and over again. I'm currently reading Jonathan Safran Foer's second novel, 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close', which is just as good.

I've officially started The Capture, Book 1 in The Guardians of Ga'Hoole series by Kathryn Lasky. :D The movie look so wonderful, so that's why I want to see what happens in the books to understand the film whenever I go watch it later this year.

The plot is about a girl who was "chosen" from the prophecy to marry her 60 year old uncle. And go through many fears along the way, because she is also having "feelings" for a boy named Joshua, she is forbidden to do so if you were a chosen one for someone else. Pretty much sums it up :P
