Title: Khaled Hosseini: "The Kite Runner"
Post by: Cristiel on June 11, 2006, 03:31:33 am

I started reading this book yesterday morning and finished it the same day. I had high expectations because I had heard all but wonderful comments about this book. And I wasn't disappointed at all.

"The Kite Runner" tells the story about two Afghan boys, Amir and Hassan, growing up in Kabul. Everything goes well until something tragic happens that brings an end to their friendship. Years later, one of them, Amir, who now lives in America, travels back to Afghanistan and gets a chance to make up for the mistake he made when he was a child.

It's not a happy story, it's quit tragic and moving and at times shocking. It also gives you a view on live in Afghanistan. But most of all it's a human, emotional story. I like to read and I read a lot but this is without any doubt one of the best books I've read in my life.

Anyone else who read it?

I read it several months ago for my book discussion group. It was very good and very sad. I learned a lot about Afghanistan's recent history and cultural traditions. And, I liked the characters and all. It was a very good, albeit tragic, story. We had a good discussion of it, but I don't recall details because it was several months ago now.

Loved this book. We read it for my English class last year. One of the few books everyone read for a required reading assignment. :)

My sister got The kite runner a while ago and she loved it. My dad and my mom also read it and got to the same conclusion. I remember asking my mom to stop reading it for awhile because she would burst into tears everytime she read it! I do know alot of ppl who've read this book and i don't remember any of them who hasn't fallen in love with it. I still haven't got the chance to read it myself but i will as soon as i finnish the ones i'm currently reading.

I'm going to read this as soon as I finish the last Harry Potter book. I had it on reserve at the library but knew I would never be able to get to it in time, so I passed it to the next person in line. I'll get back to it after Harry. I haven't heard one person say they didn't love it.

Hugs,
Rach

I loved it. Today I bought A Thousand Splendid Suns....Hosseini's new book. Reviewers have said it's even better than The Kite Runner, so I'm anxious to start reading it....probably tomorrow.

I adore this book. I read it about a year ago, and followed by telling almost everyone I know to read it.

I keep meaning to pick up his new book - maybe I will do that this week.

Oh yes, you should read A Thousand Splendid Suns. I read it yesterday and it's even better than The Kite Runner.

BTW, I just read last week that The Kite Runner is going to be filmed. I wonder if they'll try to actually film it in Kabul. A lot of the city has been rebuilt, but I doubt it yet looks like the Kabul of his book.
