Title: 10 word rule?
Post by: tiram90 on February 15, 2007, 02:40:41 pm

I'm just wondering, is it still there?

I got a warning, and got better at following it. But I have seen people who very seldom follows it. I don't mean to complain on the mods, I'm just curious.

I would like to know what the ten word rule is so maybe I can start doing better. I am starting to find myself of posting such small posts and don't want to get into trouble with the Mods.

I thought it was 5?

The rule is that you can only post a post that contains 5 words (in Marit's case 10, lol )

It means your posts must have at least 10 words.
I always try to do so but sometimes I find difficult to write more than 10 words about something...

I was just looking for that to post the link but you did it first!!
Well done!!

Yes, the 10 word minimum rule is still in place (5 words for the fanart section - no rule for posts in the random section). I don't know how the other mods do this, but I often delete posts that do not have the minimum amount of words. When a member frequently breaks the rule, I send him / her a warning.

However, sometimes I just leave posts that don't have the 10 words because they are really meaningful of have 8 or 9 words.

Oh and Marit, if you notice members who hardly follow the rule, please do let us know. We can't keep a close eye on all the threads and we do appreciate any help we can get.

Thank you so much Marit for posting the link and for Enara for helping along with Young. Now I will try to keep that in mind so I don't get into trouble.

I have went back and modified some posts * ::) looks around to make sure no one is looking ::)* to make sure I don't get in trouble.

But I think if I do post and it is fewer than 10 words I will make something up ;D. Just not to get into trouble.

Anyway, donīt worry too much it is not that difficult to write a post with at least 10 words.

Good luck and happy 10-words posting!!

Someone once said: If it needs less than ten words, then it isn't worth saying ;D

Oh ten words isn't to bad for me. I can always find something to say that keeps going on and on and on forever ;D. Just like right now. Oh well I am going to quit getting tired of rambling on and on and on ;D.

You guys are so funny! It is a great reminder...I think I have done it too a couple times. However, since I am usually so wordy...I go over the 10 most of the time. ;)

do not worry roxxy my friend I have had my posts deleted cos of this I must admit it is quite hard to stick to if I do say so myself ;D

Title: Re:10 word rule?

It is hard to stick to the ten word limit, because sometimes the point you wish to make would be aptly summed up in just one or two words.

And then a few minutes later you post 7 words?

The rule is simply to encourage thoughtful post. There were to many post resembling
"Awesome! ;D ;D!!"
Which is just irritating.

And I just wrote over 30 words in about 15 seconds...it isn't that hard.

we weren't having a go at you sweetie, just putting our opinion is that not a problem?

its just some people more than others DO find it hard to keep to the rule, but we are trying that is the best we can all hope for :D

I have a query - if you put down a quote and a one-word reply, and the quote is more than 10 words, does that count as breaking the rule? Because technically your post is more than 10 words, even though you yourself only wrote 1 of them?

Title: Re:10 word rule?
Post by: elizabeth coffey on July 18, 2007, 04:31:46 am

I also have a query in the chat thread do you have to post more than 10 words..cos there are some posts less there. is it a rule in every thread apart from 'first word that comes in your head' obviously ::)

Maybe because your post count doesn't go up it doesn't matter so much? I'm just guessing here.

The thing about the ten word rule is that not everybody has the same standard of written English. Some people who's first language is not English may struggle (some have excellent English and don't struggle at all) and I don't like the idea that people from non English speaking countries will be put off or feel prejudiced against, this forum should be for everybody regardless of nationality. What is important is communication and whether we can understand each other.

Post by: maryd on July 18, 2007, 11:50:39 am

Well said Julie, and I know that I could hardly string 10 words together in a different language to make something sensible...though I guess, like Harmonica said, if you just post one word it'll get a bit boring, you have to offer people 'a joke, an opinion'.

Yes, that also counts as breaking the rules. Every reply has to be at least 10 words (exceptions for the fanart, fanfic and random sections).

We really do not send warnings if someone posts a reply that does not have the 10 words every once in awhile, but only if someone constantly breaks the rules. We didn't make the rules for no reason, so we insist that our members respect them.

Therefor, we will not hesitate to take further actions if someone keeps breaking the rules.

Title: Re:10 word rule?

with careful posting I am finding it now quite easy to stick to this rule ;D

Title: Re:10 word rule?

Sometimes I want to answer, but I don't have a 10-word answer and then I feel rude for not answering but I feel good for not breaking the rules... it's not good lol :P I do understand the rule, though.

If I want to answer anyway, I go spamming... unfortunately

I understand where you are coming from Pam sometimes a question does only require one answer but if you really think before posting is not hard to make 10 words ;D

Oops!it looks like I had so many less than 10, random and off topic post..my post count went down from 2904 to 2883 :-\ :'( that's bad.. :'(

Title: Re:10 word rule?
Post by: Cristiel on August 20, 2007, 06:25:01 am

It has probably to do with the fact that we've been deleting and moving stuff on the board, not with not respecting the 10-word-minimum rule.
