Title: Server move...
Post by: cjhammond on September 26, 2005, 06:53:40 pm

UPDATED:

After scanning through the files, not too much is lost. Unfortunately, there's only an older version of the guestbook on the main A+F website, but apart from that, I'll only have to rewrite part of the code/scripts so they work with the new server :)

I hope that everything will be running smoothly again next weekend. Until then, please have patience if you find a non-working feature.

REQUEST FOR HELP: If you find a non-working feature, please email me (webmaster@ejwsites.net) or send me an IM, OK? Thanks a lot in advance! :)

--------

Hi fans,

I'm sooooo exhausted... The website had to move ONCE AGAIN... Aaarghh. Anyway, there'll probably be some remaining problems for the next few days (such as missing links, images, etc.). Please hang on, I'll try to fix things ASAP. But first, I have to get some rest :)

Good night!

/jochen

don't know if this question goes here, it kinda has to do with the topic...my computer is showing the wrong time (on the website) and I wanted to know if that had anything to do with what has been going on this past weekend...can anyone let me know?

Title: Re:Server move...
Post by: SolskjaersGirl on September 28, 2005, 11:47:24 pm

Yeah. It was doing the same for me too. Usually the forum time will show exactly twelve hours behind my local time. But, you can change the time in your profile to make it to your own local time. Click on your profile and scroll down to "Preferences". You'll see below "Skin Selection" -- "Time Format" and "Time Offset"

Now, the time format is a little complicated its got all this abbriviations when you click on the help but I tried that and it just looked strange for me. Now the "Time Offset" is the thing. Just type in the number of hours ahead or behind the time that is currently showing now on the forum and you'll get your local time. If you want it twelve hours ahead, just type in 12 or in my case it was just 6 hours difference from the time that was showing, which was around 5:30 am.

So, now, it should show your local time. Hope this helps. Also, I think I'll leave one of the admins or Jochen to do the tech explaining if I have it all wrong. :)

Thanks, Solskie. My time was off, too, and has been ever since I joined last October. :) I didn't realize I could adjust it myself. Now, for the first time, I have the right time. :)

The standard time is now set to CET. (Central European Time).

If you live in the UK, set the time offset to -1, if you live on the East Coast of the US, set it to -6, if you live on the West Coast, -9.

For other locations, check this site: http://www.worldtimezone.com/

Use European cities like Paris, Berlin, Brussels as a start (NOT London!!!) and then check the time in your location. Put the difference in the "Time Offset" section in your profile.

Hope this is clear ;D

Hi there,

Well, the "problem" (or rather the explanation) is that A+F has got another hosting provider during the move. Until last Saturday, the former host was located in Chicago, IL, and now A+F is located in Germany... And since the forum basically assumed there hasn't been any move at all, LOL.

To correct this, I just configured the correct time shift. So, everything should be back to "normal" now, LOL.

Almost everytime I post, it comes up with an error message, saying that my last post was less than fifteen seconds ago, even if it wasn't. Is this happening to anyone else? :-\

It happened to me once yesterday but apart from that one time, I didn't have problems.

I also had this a couple of times, it's pretty annoying because I had typed a whole lot and it was gone :-\

I got that last night, just the once.
Really annoying as it was a long post too.

I just thought it was a problem with my computer because I was having trouble with LJ entries, and my MSN kept changing my userpic too.

Odd.

Rawr. It just did it again. I'm going to PM Jochen, because I read somewhere else on the board that a few other people are having the same trouble.

I know it's not my computer, either, because I've been on three different ones since it first started. :-\

Spam flooding protection / missing IP information

Hey folks,

Well, the problem with the flood protection was that in the board's code there was an "outdated" snippet that wouldn't get the correct IP address from the login data (WHAT!!??) Anyway, I tried to fix it, and I looked up my profile and it shows the correct IP now.

If you still have problems, could you please first check that when you look at your profile (just click on your own username in the userlist at the very bottom of the forum's main page), and see if there is a valid entry for "IP:". If there isn't, please log out and then log in again. If the problems remains, please contact me again, OK?

Hope this helps,
/jochen

Thanks, Jochen! I don't really get it, but A+F's working perfectly for me now, so that's the main thing. Legend. ;)

I don't know if this has been addressed, but I was just trying to change my profile (email address and siggie) and it won't change. There's no error message or anything. When I click 'change profile', it just looks the same, and it's not supposed to... >:( Can someone help? Does it have anything to do with that IP thing?

Title: Re:Server move... **AGAIN, AT LAST**
Post by: cjhammond on May 25, 2010, 11:06:50 pm

Hello everyone,

At long last, I simply had to move the server over to a new machine again.

So, if you have any problems with a feature on the website, please email me or send me an instant message, and I'll try to smooth things out (or over) ASAP.

Otherwise, welcome to the new (and old) Always and Forever! ;)

Oh dear, sorry you had to go through that. I wasn't aware of any problems, but if there were problems, I hope everything works better now.

Thank you for keeping us up and running.

Server moving, whatever it is, sounds tricky. :P

I've just tried to change my signature and avatar, but it's giving me this message: 8192: Function eregi() is deprecated
(/www/htdocs/always/YaBBSE/Sources/Profile.php ln 592)
. Don't know what that means, but is it something to do with the move? And is it fixable? Thanks in advance. :)
